As adaptions go, Game of Thrones is about as good as you can expect. Its one of the best shows on television and has by and large succeeded in capturing the spirit of the books and portraying a believable world. It's funny that fans of the book can be so fickle. After Tyrion's trial there was trouble standing with so many people firmly stuck on their knees. Same thing with Joffery's wedding and the Oberyn's fight. Sure they missed the mark in the finale and with Lysa's death, but its unrealistic to expect that every single thing the showrunners touch will turn to gold. Even the author of the series can't do that, and he takes longer than the show has been on the air to write just one book.

The show will make its mistakes and with the benefit of hindsight I'm sure that they would approach things differently in a lot of situations. But they have to do the best the can with the constraints that are placed on them. On the whole, they've done a great job. Far better job than Peter Jackson has done adapting Tolkien or really any other fantasy adaptation.

It might not be a lot of screentime tho... if they ramp up the High Sparrow's populist/religious uprising through the season, newly-rich Bronn and his highborn wife would be the most audience-friendly way to draw parallels with the french reign of terror/ye-olde-guillotine-time.

Someone needs to edit the sound of the skellie fight and add in EQ sounds like skellie laughs and battle music.

So I guess it is pretty obvious now that Stannis will take over. He has the money, and the army.

I assume with no leadership that the Lannisters have seen there last days.

So in case of the Iron bank this is a win/win?

Stannis owes them money now, and he is going to take out one of the families that owes them the most money for free.
Allowing them to retain all rights to all there lands, I guess.

Obviously the Jews are too OP in GOT. Nerf the Jews

Far better than what Jackson did? Jackson did a hell of a job adapting The Lord of the Rings, especially given the history of trying to adapt it previously, and the uphill battle he had to fight to get 3 movies made instead of just one. The only reason we get to watch Game of Thrones every Sunday in the spring is because of how well he adapted those books, so in many ways GoT showrunners are building upon a lot of the work Jackson did 15 years ago.

I'll tell you one thing: Davos looks like a fucking PIMP now that Tywin is gone, after what he said to the guys of the Iron Bank about backing Stannis.

To say that D&D are doing better at adapting the story does not mean that Jackson didn't also do a good job.

Do we know what level of budgets both franchises got? It's tough to say who did better. I definitely enjoy GoT more than lotr though.

He certainly did a tremendous job with Lord of the Rings and there is no doubt that it set the stage for shows like Game of Thrones. But adaptation-wise he made there are far more questionable departures from the source material than Game of Thrones has to this point. Granted, a lot of that has to do with studio/financial constraints driving artistic choices (hello Arwen), and the fact that it was adapted as a trilogy of 3 hour movies rather than 30 episodes of 50+ minutes each. But regardless, Game of Thrones is objectively a much more accurate adaptation.

It's also worth mentioning that as Jackson got more freedom to do what he wanted (the Hobbit), his quality went way, way down even though his budget was astronomically bigger (~190 Million per film, or over three seasons of GOT budgets).

Oh really? Please point me to this objective comparison. That has to be one of the most ludicrous statements posted on these boards recently, outside of the Pantheon thread. I mean, I'm not trying to argue there aren't changes made to LotR, but my fucking god have there been a ton of changes to GoT...maybe you haven't read the books in awhile???

"Much more accurate"...pure comedy gold.

What is pure comedy gold is bookpuristfuck dumbfucks like you acting like we haven't read the books. Dude, I read these books before you even heard of them. So fuck right off.

Yes, there are changes in this adaptation, but you are pants-on-head retarded if you can't see how much effort has been put into adapting the show. Watch a production video, read pretty much any interview from the producers. The effort they put in, with a budget absolutely dwarfed by the LOTR, is amazing.

Yeah I certainly would not say GoT is more accurate than LotR. Have to consider however that there is a difference in both mediums. Some of the GoT changes are good for TV but some things are kind of shitty. Nature of adaptation, especially since in the books there's so much exposition and inner dialogue.
