Yeah and all that plot is totally uninteresting because you assume that it's a sideplot that only serves to build up Daenarys before she goes to Westeros.
Well, thats the thing. If you see Dany's story as only delaying until she gets to Westeros and you essentially just want to skip chapters until that happens, anything she does is going to be uninteresting to you. I found her attempt to break the slave trade as a very compelling storyline. Yes, she left Astapor and it fell back, but if Barristan's forces break the Yunkish army in front of Meereen and she comes back on her dragon (which most of us assume will happen), the back of the slave trade will be broke for generations. That is a storyline I can follow.

To me the political intrigue in Meereen was great and things did happen. The problem was that it was all buildup to a finale that never happened because George cut the book off 300 pages too short.

Martin needs to write another thousand pages where they play that fucking chess game every chapter and make sure and have a line about not bringing your dragon out too early each time. Subtle. Hopefully a full episode next season is dedicated to an entire match of that fucking table game.

That was actually a pretty cool chapter. It involved Tyrion manipulating the fuck out of Aegon. Maybe you missed it because you were too focused on the talk of chess.

They play that damn game more than just once and every time the symbolism is crammed down our throats. I didn't enjoy very much about aDWD.

they devoted maybe 5 pages to that game at best. thats not as bad as chapters and chapters devoted to quidditch matches in Harry Potter

You serious?
Yeah, i'm just talking about in the show though.

The only two who came close in likability factor were Boromir and King Robert, and they're both deader than fuck.

I mean break it down. Out of the lannisters the most likable one is a whore-mongering munchkin. Sure, he's got a sad song (like every cowboy) and he's smart -- but he's just a whoremongering munchkin. And he's probably the MOST likable Lannister seeing as that Jaime is just a honorless sister-fucking douchebag and daddy Lannister might be harder corer than ozzy ozbourne but otherwise he's dickhead supreme. Out of the Starks you have, what, Rob? And sure, Rob is your typical scotish good guy greg but he's got some SERIOUS mommy issues and (to the credit of the script and actor) puts out this "fuck, i'm in over my head" vibe. I mean you can respect him and kinda even like him on a personal level -- but more than Dany? Maybe so, I can see that. Among the still major but less prominent houses who do you have really? Theon? WELL HE'S A REAL WINNER! Skeletal King Cooter Monster? Dead King Silly Crown the Queer?

I'm not saying she's the best character or the most believable character (Tyrion is in strong contention for both of those) just that overall she's probably the most likable character. Arya "Punky Brewster" Stark might compete with her, sure, but ayra's story seems much less developed so far. Even though I guess they're supposed to be about the same age.

Part of it I think is that they haven't shown Dany doing anything really fucking horrible yet. So far she's been a victim who's bootstrapping herself into power. Plus she's a bleach blonde with nice tits. And pet dragons.

Everyone else -- they've shown them doing something that's basically reprehensible.

What has Tyrion done that is reprehensible? His tits are definitely not as nice, though.

I am thoroughly confused as to how they are going to make me think Jamie Lannister is anything but a douchebag. Bran... Ned... His own cousin just to break out of jail... weak barbs hurled at pretty much every character I like including Brienne. Without that internal thought process, I just don't see the same transformation being possible as it is in the books.

Iannis, every character you mentioned is more likeable than Queen WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS. Except the faggot Renly I guess.

Jamie is a likable douchebag. But I think getting his hand cut off really humbled him because now his main skill at arms doesn't exist.

We'll find out just how good the actor really is I guess. I expect between the bath scene and the bear scene it will go a long way though. Lots of exposition in the bath followed by a very visible show that he cares about someone besides Cersei.

Also the whole hand thing should garner some sympathy.

I think if you don't like Jamie now you never will. There's parts of him that'll get more likable but he's not as clean of a slate as Sansa or Daenarys. He'll still be a swarmy fucker.

Iannis, you're out of your mind.
Dany is the favorite character of a lot of people. She is my favorite character outside of possibly Tyrion (or Jaime), she is the favorite character of a great many tv fans and book fans. Just finished reading the Unsullied thread on televisionwithoutpity, clearly she has a huge following there also. Unlike almost every other person in power, she genuinely cares about her followers. The reason she is "stuck" in Meereen is simply because she cares about the people there. She doesn't want to leave for Westeros, if that leaving would cause mass chaos. I know lots of you Dany haters skipped or didn't pay attention in the Meereen chapters, but its very clearly laid out by the Shavepate and others that if she leaves Meereen, the slavers will take over and slaughter her freedmen. Her reluctance to abandon Meereen and cause a bloodbath cemented my fondness for her character.

Now she does get a lot of hate from the "dont care about anything that isn't in westeros" crowd. Which is pretty funny when you consider that probably the most popular character in the show, Tyrion, isn't in Westeros anymore and is going to meet her.

The only cool thing Daenarys has ever done is the ridiculous commandeering of all those unsullied. Other than that she's pretty much fucked everything up.
