Someone who makes 60 ravioli doesn't boil chicken. This is a troll post and should be infracted.
How does making 60 pelmeni disqualify me from boiling chicken? Anyway, what is the problem with boiling chicken? Believe it or not, it's extremely common to boil all kinds of meats in some parts of the world and is, in fact, a traditional way of cooking. Seehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beshbarmakfor just one good example of an almost entirely boiled dish (meat + noodles) that tastes fucking delicious.

I prefer it to roasting because it makes the chicken extremely soft and moist, and it's great if you want to do a kind of pulled chicken because the meat falls apart so easily. In fact, while sometimes I just sprinkle some pepper on the chicken, one of my favorite recipes is to create a dry rub of brown sugar, paprika, red chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. I boil several chicken breasts, tear them apart using a couple of forks so it resembles pulled chicken, and then mix the seasoning mix into it. It's delicious and other than the little bit of brown sugar it is a pretty damn healthy meal.

You want to know why boiling is common and traditional? Because it's easy and required parts consist of pot, fire, and water. None of those should be used as proof as the preferred way to cook chicken. Or any meat for that matter. Would you boil a beef tenderloin?

The fact that it's easy and accessible doesn't negate the fact that it is a perfectly legitimate way to cook absolutely delicious food.

Also, I never said it is "the preferred way" to cook chicken. I grilled chicken. I roast chicken. I fry chicken. I boil chicken. They are all good ways to cook, and I don't understand why you look down on boiling when the result can be just as delicious as any other cooking method.

Boiled meat is not delicious. There is zero reason to do that if you have the option of sauteeing it or grilling it.

I disagree, boiled chicken is not delicious. Boiling does nothing to enhance the flavor the meat whilst guaranteeing you will overcook it.

That's fine. We can agree to disagree. Like I said, I've spent considerable time in parts of the world where boiled meat is the norm, and I would put some of those traditional boiled meat dishes up against the best that American culture has to offer.

This isn't subjective. What does boiling do to chicken besides overcook it? The dish you linked, boiled meat and noodles, would be bland without the sauce accompanying it. You can't use those dishes as examples of "see, boiling meat is good!". Boiling meat is common because anyone can do it(and the overcooking guarantees to kill pathogens). It's what gets put on the boiled meat afterwards that make it palatable.

Seriously, next time you boil chicken, just eat that. No salt, pepper, seasoning whatsoever.

Well, yeah. Like I said, I season it of course. Any plain chicken is bland if it's not cooked in any kind of oil or seasoning and given no sauce. I'd never just pop a chicken in the oven without seasoning or preparing a sauce for it, just like I'd never just drop some chicken in a frying pan without any oil or seasoning to go with it. It all tastes bland.

Chicken that's grilled to bordering on charred is pretty good by itself.

So you're going to stop boiling your chicken, right?

Yeah, I will concede that grilled chicken is one thing that doesn't reallyneedany seasoning or sauce, cause it has that grilled flavor.

And no, I won't stop boiling my chicken. I like how it tastes when I put a bit of seasoning on it. Why would I stop doing that just because you don't approve? I likes what I likes!

*Edit* In fact, next time I boil a batch of chicken with that seasoning I mentioned I'm going to post a picture here, just for you.

This is not a joke, but when you dudes get your sous vide things, sous vide chicken. I had it once (admittedly at a very high end restaurant) and it was awesome. Probably the sauce but they did a good job of selling how awesome the chicken was.

When you boil chicken, all the tasty juices end up in the water. Sous vide gets around that by sealing it in a bag. The only time I'll boil chicken is for making soup/stock when you want flavor in the water.

Shrimp seems like it would be a perfect application for sous-vide
Depends on how big the shrimp is really, otherwise it would probably take longer to setup than it would to just toss it in a sauteuse scampi.

On the plus side you could sous vide the shrimp in the scampi and not risk burning the butter. So that could be a thing if you want it to be a set and forget kind of deal.
