deep freezer restock update

day 2 was a failure, or rather all the briskets were bought up at my local kroger and i drove out to another 10mins away and that was gone too

meat dude said tomorrow should be restock

meanwhile my trash can is starting to stink since i have the equivalent of a dead body in it even tho i try to put the trash can in the shade and pick up is thurs
Dude you should have bagged that stuff, and taken it to your local dump. You don't want 100 lb of rotting meat in your garbage can.

Go buy a big bag of baking soda I just dump it all on top of whatever the hell you got in there. That'll at least help temporarily.

I suggest this because I've made that mistake in the past

will the baking soda shoo away the flies?

It should at least dry out any of the maggots that are in there, that doesn't seem to do a bad job of deterring adult flies for getting in there. I also will dump a bottle of bleach in as well, just don't sniff any of the fumes.

Just bleach the hell out of the can once it gets dumped, hose it out, and then dust it with more baking soda after for good measure.

But baking soda really helps kill the smell. I keep a pretty big bag in the garage just a throw a couple of scoops in during the summer when the garbage starts to get stinky.

Or maybe call your local animal shelter and see if they want it. Probably not now that it stinks to high heaven, but that's a shame for that much meat to rot in the landfill.

so when i wheeled it to the curb, it musta been about 250+lbs of meat and my strategy of having chicken in there (i only had beef and pork) turned out smell the worst. (my prepper meat was just beef and pork, but when i was digging into it during 2021 the lack of chicken hurt variety, so thats when i started adding in whole chickens)

anyway it was foul and i had to wait until night time to bring it out cuz the neighborhood kids were playing ball and i'm not that mean.

what i didn't expect, but should have was after it got dumped, there was still about 2 gallons of "juice" in the container and hundreds of maggots! and threw a gallon of bleach to genocide the colony.

i then powerwashed the inside, don't worry, i didn't get any backsplash cuz i have 10ft extension i use for my gutters, and that came in really handy!

i just let it sun dry cuz i read uv rays disinfect/clean smells really good and yea it smells now, (like smelly garbage) but not putrid.

The guy's a New York liberal commie, but he's got some pretty good recipes and videos. The one thing I can't stand is the camera angle where everything is down low when he's showcasing the dish.

It is something I'm going to try the next time I bust out the deep fryer for chicken or fish. We used to eat a lot of stuffed artichokes growing up in New Orleans, typically with crab meat and crawfish

Went to our favorite and only edible Chinese restaurant in the area. It's Americanized, but good. Ordered sesame chicken, but didn't want all the sesame seeds, so the lady said "okay orange chicken." Rustled.

Then it came out and the sauce wasn't reduced or really coating the chicken. It's been better to-go when the sauce is separate and I reduce it at home first, but even in the restaurant hasn't ever been just thin and just kinda drizzled over the chicken. So maximum rustled.

Got some shaoxing (hower spelled) wine recently so making my own sesame sauce to eat the leftover chicken. If I have to do the work why bother going out.

Salvaged the slightly soggy drizzled leftover sesame chicken with fresh made sauce. Did the leftover steamed and fried rice in the remaining sesame sauce, was good but a pretty sticky.

Roughly following this Serious Eats recipe now that I have proper China wine and rice vinegar is pretty good. Might want to add your own spice. Did a version for wings a while back that were good.

You should pick up a bottle of this. I use it pretty often when we're doing any type of Chinese barbecue, or for Asian inspired dishes. Probably not traditional, but regular five spices found in a lot of different dishes. It's really good and the Chipotle adds some nice smokiness and a little bit of heat.
