You should pick up a bottle of this. I use it pretty often when we're doing any type of Chinese barbecue, or for Asian inspired dishes. Probably not traditional, but regular five spices found in a lot of different dishes. It's really good and the Chipotle adds some nice smokiness and a little bit of heat.

Will have to check it out. Regular China 5 spice has something in it my girlfriend doesn't like so I stopped using it. I'll do real palm sugar and tamarind or Sichuan peppercorns (not convinced it's worth the hassle), but I don't mind using nontraditional substitutions, too. Tajin has been great for needing some chili and citrus flavors like in pad Thai and handy since I've never once in my life remembered to buy a lime.

It has all the five spice stuff, so it might be a no-go if she doesn't like it. But fuck it, cook something awesome for yourself.

Heads up for anyone with access to HEB, they got pork tenderloins on sale, and select Ribeye as well. You can snag a couple of steaks for 10 bucks, just need to cull through what's available. They're not prime, but for five bucks a steak at over a pound each, I'm not going to bitch.

Figured in our current economic environment, doesn't hurt to share intel on good deals, especially on meat. It should be a sale across all the stores throughout the state, but I could be mistaken.

Anyways happy hunting and load up.

Edit: sale will go off on next Wednesday if I'm not mistaken.

Lanx Lanx do you have a good suggestion for a nice grill brush? You are The unofficial cooking gadget guru, and I figured you've done the research, and I don't want to just stop by Academy by the first thing I see.

Much obliged.

That's a myth. Yeah if you try to use the same brush for 20 years it probably going to get some metal bristles up in your shit, but if you replace them regularly it's not going to be an issue.

I'm so disappointed. I thought you would honestly have the greatest whizbang option to suggest out there.

i saw like 2 stories of a kid getting their intestines tied in a knot cuz of the metal bristles off a grill brush and have just used aluminum foil since.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Total sensationalism. She probably has had the same grill brush since the day she moved into the house and started using that grill. The metal brushes aren't supposed to be permanent like a cast iron pan, they're disposable items. Treat it like you do a damn sponge you're not going to keep the same sponge for two decades.

If you get really goofy about it, you can buy the silicone ones or whatever the hell, and use them as long as the grill isn't hot but they don't clean near as well as the metal.

Damn it now I'm just going to have to go do my own research because the cooking gadget guru isn't coming through.
