My girls are 7 and 10. It was mywifewho suggested they might like this after we'd watched it; certainly better than Planes and the other hot garbage that's out for the kiddies these days.
I'm going to see it for the second time with the wife and I'll be judging if it's ok for my 6 year old son. Not to over hype it but this is the modern equivalent of the original Star Wars when I was just about his age. That, and he picked out a GotG backpack because of the trailers.

I'm all pumped up to see it again tonight.

People keep saying it was better then Star Wars, but eh can't agree with that. Star Wars had one of the best uses of Deus Ex Machina I've seen in Cinema.
Different movies, but Guardians was fun and exciting in the way that movies like Star Wars or Indiana Jones was. Not many movies i can say that about.

I'm not sure how they will deal with Richard Rider now, they probly won't make him earthbound because that would be much too similar to Quills backstory.
Also the people complaining about the nova corps, they really didn't show the Nova Force so that may still be out there.
I honestly don't know how I know what I know, and am probably really bad/dumb at it. Mostly wiki info cause I definitely don't spend time reading comics. I think they could, because they're gonna some how have to earth Thanos other than just the whole event in Avengers with the wormhole, I don't think there is any current infinity gems left on earth. Also think just linking off purely Avenger's wormhole would make for very weak immersion(They've been getting aton better at linking movies within movies, ie Cap2.) I've read the whole thing about them wanting to send Hulk into space, which there is also words about basically no Planet Hulk or World War Hulk, but at the same time could really link in some reasons; but I don't have the details regarding that. But also having Thanos attack Xandar, and setting in the whole Nova line leaking in some information about a powerful being destroying civilizations and more so infinity gem knowledge cause I think in current movie verse, still no one knows what the inifinite gems are, just tesseract and aether? It would also make more sense to link the whole cosmic part of Marvel with Nova versus having the Guardians chase Thanos across the galaxy, not entirely impossible just a weird instant plot line. I would imagine with Guardians they're gonna explore more on the cosmic level, nothing is really left for them on Earth other than references from Quill.

There's no reason to bring the Guardians to Earth unless they're heading there to also fight Thanos with the Avengers. The best Guardians stories have nothing to do with Earth.

So it came in 1 mill short of Cap 2. Insane for a new Franchise. Marvel just printing money.

Guardians exceeded box office projections (which estimated a $60 million opening) with a whopping $94 million debut. The Marvel film broke records as the biggest August opening ever, and reigns as the third-largest debut of 2014, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million and Transformers: Age of Extinction's $100 million openings.

Alas, poor Hercules will continue to be the stuff of legends, as the film earned a mere $10.7 million -- which brings its total revenue to $70.3 million, well under the $100 million budget. Brett Ratner, you did it again!
With all that money Marvel should at least be able to get FF back. X-men/ Spider-man are a lost cause.

So what avatar are you giving Keg? He already admitted you won.

I was more excited than I should have been when the Celestial showed up in Collector's little video demonstration. Just knowing something like that exists in the MCU gets me excited for the future.

It's a long wait till the next movie tho =(. This is part where they didn't plan well ,and we wait almost a year to the next movie.

Only Shield will be out there.

They do 2 movies a year. Avengers 2 and Ant-Man are the 2015 releases. Maybe they'll increase it to 3 per year at some point, but they aren't quite there yet.

Don't forget about the awesome black-light line. That and Groots 1v15 were funniest thing I've seen in Marvel in a while.

That's not soon that is a year away haha. Problem was they put gotg back to back with cap 2, and now we wait a year for new content.

Yeah and I will be shocked if Ant Man actually makes it's release date after all this mess.

I'm betting Marvel is happy they commissioned a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series

Comic books have always had fantastic characters and stories and now we have the technology to visualize the world. Disney has shown what can be done in the right hands.

Did anyone else think the 3-d was really good in the movie? It seemed to add a lot of depth to scenes and wasn't used as just a gimmick with flying kinves and shit like that.

I did and didn't. There was a scene very early in the movie where Star Lord is in his ship with the hot red skinned chick. They swing the camera from him looking at something to her answering his phone when a call comes through. The 3D is very blurry for that scene. It wouldn't allow you to focus on anything, but as soon as the camera became stationary again, it became crisp once more.

I went and it for a second time today, this time in 3D. The 3D was pretty decent, blurry in some spots but everything in space looked pretty good.
