Saw an early showing if it this morning. Was literally the only person in the theatre.

Enjoyed it. Time flew by. Bunch of hits in the feels. Would happily watch again.

Can’t say that for much other Marvel stuff lately.

Just got out of an advance screening with my friend. Both liked it, its very dark though so maybe not for kids under 10? I dunno read up on the animal stuff and use your own judgement there. Adam Warlock was okay, music choices were good, Drax is a lil overplayed. Pratt really shined in this one though, as did Cosmo. High Evolutionary was very well acted and could have been very one note but Chukwudi Iwuji played it very well so the character become much more.

Guardians lineup in the spoiler below (you knew it was coming, Bautista is retiring from the character and it was well publicized), I wont spoil any more then that but I am sure it s on wiki already or something.

Adam Warlock (so room for improvement to build off the performance here)
Rocket
Groot
Phyla Vell
Cosmo
Kragan

How bad is the animal stuff?

I'm pretty much ready to call it a day on Marvel in general after the implosion of Majors and the last few movies being kinda shit. Saw all of them up to this point, even Eternals, but I'm way beyond done.

I love GOTG though so I was gonna see this before I call it. If it's all about animal experimentation and whatnot I'm probably gonna skip it. Dr Fauci might get a boner at that stuff but it's a big nope from me.

im so confused Astro. You liked the movie but hated everything or didnt understand it?

Warlock was oddly done and editing was weird. TBH I kinda like the depowered Adam, hes way to powerful. if you go off the comics hes ridiculously over powered like Superman

Who would win in a one-on-one fight, Superman or Thanos?

I feel like Superman would. But also Darkseid is the Thanos of DC, he's stronger than Superman, and most people seem to regard him as roughly equal to Thanos I think. So who knows.

to be fair, the animal torture and mutilation stuff isnt super gross out terrible. its the subtleness of it and the situation of the animals with their "modifications" which fucked with me. i'm not a vegan pussy, i like meat and if you hunt beer and deer for sport, thats ok. but fucking up little furry animals and removing parts of them and inserting shit just for fun is way the fuck beyond what i would tolerate. fuck that shit.

Except its cute fluffy intelligent baby animals instead of toys. I'm not sure what's worse; the mechanical grafting of completely unnecessary parts on to animals, the fact that he makes the animals intelligent first so that they understand their suffering, or the fact that the animals are all exclusively baby animals. It's puppies and bunnies and baby seals, not adult animals. It's this twist that gets me tbh. They have the naivety of like, idk toddlers. they dont know why they are being forced to suffer but they still have, hope? and you understand its futile but you still have to watch it get yanked away from them.

oh and yeah you watch them all die.

The torture porn is extremely tame by James Gunn standards (Super, Brightburn, and Slither were all far more visceral), but it is being done to animals so it triggers the feels much more. When people are saying its dark, its mostly about the tone of the movie especially, in the earlier parts with Peter being in a bad emotional place and Rocket being near death. It shifts gears gradually over the whole film away from that tone, though.

dont these films make the big bucks off of repeat viewing? anyone here want to see this again?

BTW dont label me as a hater. i liked the first two films. one of my favorite Pixar films is UP!, but that movie breaks your heart in the first 15 minutes, i saw it once in theaters and one more time on cable. still gets you.

Up! is the only movie in the last ten years or so that made me bawl my eyes out. Doesn't help that I watched it with my girlfriend who is no longer with us, so now it'd hit home way more than it did then even. I don't think I could do it now.

Jesus Christ.

Sounds kind of like part of Mother 3 (or Earthbound 2 if you want). Probably the best game on the Game Boy Advance entirely and one of the best games I've ever played. However a big part of the game is the villains doing stuff like that to "improve" all of the life-forms in the wilderness.

Game is disturbing in general for that and a variety of other reasons (Spoiler alert: The main character's whole family basically die one by one) but it really is incredible and tugs on a lot of strings that I didn't know games were capable of at the time.

...anyway I think I'm gonna check out on GOTG3.

Its your dollar, but it really is the best Marvel movie other than No Way Home since IW and will probably be the last good Marvel movie for the foreseeable future.

And to answer Astro's question, I will be watching this again. The other two have been regular rewatches for me and I don't see this one any different. Its much more rewatchable than End Game and anything not Spider Man that has come out since. I think the first GotG movie probably ruined the MCU for me because it was like getting a well cooked expensive steak and suddenly realizing I had been eating bologna sandwiches the entire time with these other movies for the most part. And honestly I think IW was good mainly because it had a lot of Spider Man and GotG in it.

Yeah I'm wanting to go see it again. Much better than Vol 2 for me. Movie hits you in the feels a ton, only issue I had was the editing

Edit - Cosmo was great in this but I thought all of the team were at their best

Tried watching this recently with my wife (who was my girlfriend when Up first came out) knew the start of the movie was coming and it STILL fucking got me so bad I had to turn it off. It's fucking with me right now just thinking about it.

the deviousness of that movie knows no bounds, when you get passed that beginning and start enjoying the movie, before the end, he opens the scrapbook and finds the message Ellie left for him. thats when it fucking kills you again. i had to stop myself from watching that movie anymore. its such a good film, but i dont want to be destroyed every time i see it..

Watched it. Wasnt really interested in watching anymore marvel movies, but i was dragged along.

I thought the movie was too dark and also had some really evil shots with gore and incinerating animals. WTF. It's a bad movie for kids

I can see where some of you are coming from about the animal scenes. I kind of expected the outcome as well but I could watch it without being overly disturbed. However, yeah, way too grimdark for a kid and that’s not even counting the scene where Starlord cuts the memory core out the guy’s head he’s just killed.

UP was just wrong.

I go in expecting a crazy adventure with an old geaser and some kids, and then get the most depressing moment in animation history for the first 10 minutes. I understand the need to portray a sense of sadness in a drama but do not think that level of it fits in that kind of medium. The theater I went to see it in had about 50 people watching it. You could have heard a pin drop and actually did hear sniffles during that first part.

I think everyone is going overboard with the animal torture stuff. It's implied but they don't show anything, Rocket screaming when he loses his friend was brutal. Props to Bradley Cooper for the voice work, it might have been Sean Gunn though since he voiced baby rocket
