How are the dungeons/grouping content? Been sort of bored lately, and realized I never actually did any group pve after getting bored of the WvW and zone quests.

Most of the dungeons are actually fairly dumb, it's just an exercise in trying to skip as much trash as possible, which is fun up until a point. Honestly, sometimes I feel the best content in this game are the hidden mini-dungeons/jumping puzzles.

I think dungeons are fun if you're playing with people that want to play together mainly, and not finish asap. But I see dungeons in other games the same so /shrug. I agree that the mini dungeons out in the world are the best content in the game though, wish they added more of that regularly and expanded on the concept.

I think that they need to think of ten small things that could have a major impact to change the dynamic of WvW rather than focusing on big thing like new maps.

For example, here is one idea for them that is small, surgical, and may help WvW by discouraging people from forming large groups: add a buff that stacks based upon people nearby where greater than [fifteen, say] people nets you -20% damage and more than twenty five people nets you -50% damage.

You can make this buff so that it pulses and checks anyone nearby adding everything on your id list to theirs and everything on their id list to yours, which means that even twenty five people in a thin line at just under max range would trigger the buff. Yes, the buff would be annoying and occasionally you would be in a close fight when some retard showed up and caused you to lose, but it would overall discourage large groups and push people into smaller clusters. You could even make it so that the first 24 are fine for 10s but the 25th person gets the debuff immediately which would encourage them to leave the area before everyone got the penalty.

In any case, there are probably a hundred ideas like that one that could have a big impact on the WvW game. They just need to sit down and build a list.

It's the layout of the borderlands that makes zerging a problem, not the actual combat mechanics. That lake just takes up too much space that could be more small group objectives. And they could make the small group objectives more meaningful for helping you siege the local keeps.

I wish they would redo the borderlands tbh, make 3 different maps of them. They rotate weekly anyway. Or if they insist on mirrors at least make them different themes, one snow, one autumn, one tropical.

I'd love of each servers own borderlands were persistant and had far more options for upgrades, so guilds can claim stuff and fortify it. The main WvW battle would be about EB then (make it bigger ofc) and actually conquering a borderland would be a big undertaking with appropriate rewards.

I hope they add new weapons to existing classes.

I think they've accomplished a lot since launch, for everything but WvW. And therein lies their problem. They don't devote a lot of resources to WvW because it's not very popular, but it's not very popular because they don't devote a lot of resources to it.
One of the interviews with Collin he said they were working towards trying to give every class every weapon. GS Thief inc! :p

That's one of the things I enjoy the most about GW2 was seeing how each class used a weapon in it's own way that could drastically differ from another. I was floored when I saw what the Mesmer did with the great sword at first.

Yeah, my first impression was to say having every weapon with every class sounds really stupid. Thieves with scepters? Elementalist with rifles? But then they have already actually done a lot of unconventional weapon choices that they have made fitting. All of the casting classes, for instance, have at least one weapon choice that you wouldn't normally associate with those types of classes (Mesmers with pistol, Elementalist with daggers, and Necromancer with axe), but they've made them all work in ways that look and feel natural to the class.

Giving Engineer access to every weapon would be a pretty fundamental shift in the class, but not one I'd be opposed to.

I dont think every weapon on every class makes that much sense. It's one thing to have a caster use a melee weapon to channel his spells, but a melee clubbing his foe with a scepter? Not really fitting. But they have alot of room to increase weapon choice without going that far, so giving each class a few more weapons would be welcome as long as they can make them distinct (the big hurdle imo).

First of all I'd actually like a new underwater weapon for each class to actually provide a choice in that arena.

They could do at least 2 more weapon per class.

Warriors could get pistols mh and off.
Elementalists could get Greatsword and Sword mh.
Mesmers could get pistol mh and dagger off.
Necros could get sword mh and axe off.
Engineers could get 2hand hammer and mace mh.
Guardian could get longbow and axe mh.
Thief could get mace mh and off.
Ranger could get sword off and staff.

They are also missing some weapons like 2handed axe, whip, polearms, land-based spear (maybe two-handed or roll into polearms), javelin. Could also add shields to casters, etc, etc.

Question is should they? Just for the sake if it isnt reason enough if it homogenizes all classes. Another approach would be to allow classes to customize the first five skill slots (depending on weapon ofc) along with the last 5 slots. I main a mesmer for example and feel scepter has no real identity anymore, it needs a rework. But you'll always have people missing the old skills. So instead of reworking skills they could allow you to learn additional skills for each weapon and switch them out for one of the default skills on that weapon.

The PVE in this game is fun casualness. They really did a good job of creating stuff to do that weren't dailies. The problem they ran into is that the game doesn't offer any really large goals.

WVW is very very stagnant and very poorly designed. There are a million things they could do to make it better, but I stopped caring about that.

They could of created an interesting esport thing if they actually had systems around it to support. Proper lobby mechanics, proper tournament structures, ranks, leaderboards and all the API hooks to set up websites to run it.

They even have a great class system where classes only have a few attacks. The problem is that you can't differentiate between what players are doing during a match. For example, in DOTA/LOL you can see and comment on really good combos and maneuvers. in GW2 it was all a blur and a zerg/spam fest. If they slowed down combat just a bit and made moves a bit more visable and make the combo system really visual it would of been much more successful. Then people would enjoy watching matches.

Since I've been bored with other games, I fired this up. I figured I'd get my 75 Thief to 80. I'm on the 75 Starving the Beast storyline and a hearty fuck you to the idiots who designed this encounter, which is impossible to kite, straight up fight, or do anything but die via attrition over and over.

GW2 had so much potential. It's a shame their design team are fucking clowns.

You're doing it wrong. That particular mob is one you range down while running the hell away from it. If you want to get 80 fast just hit Queen's Pavillion while it's in season. Follow the zerg and get your achievements done and tons of loot.

I finished it. My problem wasn't the Mouth, which I used the pillars to beat, it was being instagibbed by the waves of undead the moment I sat down in the ranged siege weapon to attack the boat. On the third try I finally took off all my armor, trapped the undead via a bug on the rocks, and then sunk the ship.

The design was annoying as fuck to me. I was literally dead in two seconds on my thief the first two times the encounter started from the waves of undead plus the catapult.

I really have a love/hate relationship with GW2. I like the world, the combat system, and the random encounters. I really hate a lot of the bugs, WvW, and the grouping setup. Still, it's better than EQ2...

I am rather disappointed that GW2 hasn't expanded upon the main storyline (afaik) dealing with the other elder dragons wrecking stuff elsewhere. With the amount of time they have investing in putting out bi-weekly "content" updates, I'd think they could start moving us towards another dragon.

Queen's Gauntlet is fun, when going for the achievements. Better designed encounters than most raids in non-WoW games. Granted, some classes have much easier times doing certain encounters and achievements, but overall every class is good at something.

I haven't played since December/January, could anyone tell me if it's worth coming back at all? I really have no clue what's new other then my friends talking about Fractals, is that really the only thing they've added? I am just trying to find something else to play at the moment. I basically stopped once I finished my Orichalcum armor, jewelry and weapon and it was just grind whatever dungeon you wanted to get marks so you could change the appearance of your armor. I enjoy WvW a little, but only when I am running with a small group. Did they add anything new to the WvW badge vendors?
