Exactly exactly. Gun advocates like to pretend that the law is no deterrent when it serves them (criminals don't follow gun bans), but pretend it is an absolute deterrent when it doesn't (modifying guns illegally to fire full auto).
I think some restrictions on what they're able to produce is pretty sensible. Guns are an easy target, but there are probably some other things that they shouldn't be able to produce in relatively unlimited quantity on demand.

I think the point is the criminal will either A) obtain a weapon illegally or B) modify a weapon illegally, if they need to. How the hell does your sentence even make sense in your head?

That is the maddening thing about arguing with Duppin about this. He hasn't justified a single restriction at all.
Your assertion was that we didn't need to worry if weapons could be modified to fire full auto, because it's against the law.

Again, burden is on YOU to justify additional restrictions. The NFA leaves a papertrail, is expensive and has never been used in a crime. Yet this is something else on your wishlist. It is like you are deliberately trying to prove to everyone that you don't know what you are talking about. Are you always this stupid? Or do guns just bring out the worst in you?
Actually, the burden is on you to actually come out and say whether you think that the authors of the NFA meant for NFA trusts to be possible, rather than continuing to hide behind "lawl it's never been used in a crime", which I never even asserted to the contrary.
When some guy with an NFA trust stockpile flips out and goes on a killing spree, it's going to be absolutely epic, though.
