I think you missed the point/points of my comment. One, it's hypocritical to say guns in school isn't the answer and then send your children to one with 11 armed guards provided by the school. And two, if there's a gun ban, he strips the average citizen the right of personal protection afforded by them while our tax dollars pays for his.
Incoming rant.
This idea to ban guns is tyrannical and I'm surprised anyone would back it. It's another way big government steps in and says they know what's good for you and whether half the population agrees or not, doesn't matter. It really pisses me off when people sell there freedom for the idea of protection from the powers that be at the moment. It goes against what it means in this country to live free. And how long before the other guy is seated in the Whitehouse promising you protection at the cost of a little freedom, but now you're in the 50% that wants to tell the politician to go fuck himself? I hate smoking. I dream of a smoke free world. I'm one of the most militant non smokers you'd ever have the displeasure of meeting, but I'd be standing right next to the asshole with the cigarette in his mouth the moment some figurehead wanted to ban smoking because whether I agree with it or whether it causes cancer, it's that individuals right to stick tobacco in their mouth and light. Standing next to someone I disagree passionately with; that's the cost I pay for supporting the right to be free.
