Wisdom teeth are coming out tomorrow. They aren't impacted so insurance won't pay for anesthesia so looks like I'm going in hot. I'm not worried about the pain but having wisdom teeth yanked while awake should sound interesting.

i got that same shit a decade ago. such bullshit. I was hoping PPACA would have fixed that. having that done without anesthesia sucked.

Dental insurance is the absolute worst. Expensive as fuck, barely pays for anything, and has a low enough cap that one root canal and cap used ALL of my benefits for the year. Thankfully it was at the end of the year and has since reset.

They're going to numb me up with Novocaine and what not. They're just not going to put me out. I wasn't trying to imply they were going to use nothing. I'm not that insane or stupid. lol

I don't know how it's done now, but at least twenty years ago when I had mine out it was not typical to get anesthesia for non-impacted wisdom teeth. They stuck you with the needle a few times and went to work. It wasn't painful but was extremely disturbing due to the violent nature of extracting wisdom teeth. Hammering, drilling, pulling, and god the smell of burning teeth was awful.

I'm surprised dental insurance is so costly for you.

At both of my employers we used Delta Dental. At my first job it was $10/mo and here it's $2/mo. I've never had to pay anything out of pocket and my wife got some pretty extensive work done. I've had 2 fillings and I didn't get charged at all for it, not even a copay.

Anyone dealt with a B12 deficiency? That's the new "theory". I tested really low for it. Apparently B12 deficiency is known as the MS mimic. It can also produce lesions in the brain and back if it's bad enough. It's possible I guess it was low and the lesions were formed by the ADEM which is an autoimmune response to a virus or infection, I had shingles which may/may not have to do with a comprimised immune system from B12 deficiency.

I'm taking injections now, but they say it can be 6 months to a year to fully recover. One day I'm pretty normal and the next day I appear as someone who is in late stage MS. Even the neurologist are baffled. I have like every symptom on the check list for MS which even the neurologist say is rare, and then a week later they are all gone. It's like one day my body doesn't have the energy for my nervous sytstem to work properly.

I can't imagine not having enough B12 thru my diet, so it must be a genetic deal.

try paying delta dental not subsidized by work. solo it costs more just in premiums than what it fucking covers for the year unless you have a freak accident. i pay out of pocket for xrays and cleanings and fillings if needed and its way cheaper.

And all done. Pretty easy except the bottom two broke in half due to cavities. Some drilling and they came out. Glad I didn't get anesthesia or I'd have to hang around in the office for a bit. Screw that.

Do you have any gastrointestinal issues, as well?

Yes. Serious abdominal pain and non stop constipation. Of course both of those are common to MS. The pain being called the MS hug, but from what I've read and been told it comes and goes and last a few days maybe a few weeks. Mine started soon after my 5 days of corticosteroid infusion. Which I read can also make B12 deficiency worse.

The abdominal pain has been non stop. Some days are better than others. But it's bad enough people at my new work wanted to know why while working I partially lay back in the chair.

The entire reason for having the steroid infusion after the original ADEM attack (which was supported by the lesions in the brain on the MRI) was about 6 weeks later both my hands felt funny/pins needs and started to hurt. Apparently that's a common issue with B12 deficiency as well. I took a B12 shot two weeks ago and another one yesterday. My hands feel better for the first time in 18 months, at least somewhat. My stomach is about a 4 out of 10 for pain when it was a solid 7-8 for a long time. At one point it was bad enough I couldn't walk from the pain.

Supposidly I am at high risk being a diabetic as well. The whole issue started while working 8 hour days on site, then working 6 hours at the office during a turnaround. Throw in a 3 hour commute total for the day as well.

At first I thought it might be vitamin D related. I was tested and that was OK. I was getting no sun at that time. Drive to work in the dark, work in the office. On site I had to wear a nomex suit so no sun there either.

There's a LOT of crossover I guess which leads to the B12 deficiency being called the MS mimic. I have had tremors in the face only starting recently. A mouth FULL of canker sores/ulcers at one point last year. I mean an entire mouth full. Now I'm down to 2 but they have improved in the 24 hours since the last B12 shot.

Confused.

I'm at the point now that the neurologist say "Go see an internist".
Interest says go see a neurologist.

I made a timeline of symptons and took them to the recommended internist. Some genius he was. He said "pick one, we'll cure it and go for another one in a few weeks". I'm not a Dr. but they started at the same time, you would think they are related.

The one thing about MS that confuses me is LOTS of stories I have read people had lots of issues over a long time span and then had it diagnosed. I didn't have any until bam there it was. The only lead up I had was someone close to me said "You do seem to complain about being tired a lot".

I'm not even fatigued so much now. It just seems like if I get up and do something like I shot my bow today it takes 10 times longer than normal to recover from it.

I haven't been tested yet. I go to have the other B12 related test Tuesday. Just went ahead and took a B12 shot since it's cheap when they mentioned it. Lab that does them right here.

You'll be fine. I had all 4 pulled at once while wide awake on local anesthesia. Doc had to red october one of those mother fuckers too. Worst part was having to keep my goddamn mouth wide open for about an hour. Ibuprofen was enough for the pain after that. I've heard wisdom teeth can be excruciating but mine were not a big deal at all.

Won't matter if you don't have intrinsic factor. You need it to be able to absorb B12.

I don't know he said they could test to see if your body is absorbing it. I don't know how, maybe they give you a mass dose and compare it. It's the university medical center with both an internist and neurologist and they said prepare to stay several days if needed until they find the problem.

To be frank, I don't see many patients with pernicious anemia. Hope you get better -- and I hope your MS symptoms are actually related to B12 deficiency.
