I have been playing Totem/Stealth Shaman and I would like to report to my RR Bros that Acolyte of Pain is a general common card that is just about strictly better than Manatide Totem, a shaman rare. Both cost 3. Both have 3 health. Acolyte has 1 power while Manatide has 0. Manatide is a 'Totem' subtype, which applies to Totemic Might (+2 Health to all Totems). Acolyte has no subtype.
1 attack is better than an off-chance and underpowered class synergy.
The rub comes when you ask yourself how many cards you can expect to draw from either the Acolyte or the Totem. I say: one against a good player, two against a bad one. I think that applies for both cards. Therefore the only real difference is the possible +2 Health synergy
ORthe 1 Attack. The 1 Attack wins hands down. If an opponent kills your dude with a 3 DMG spell, it is a rub. If it takes him one creature to attack yours and kill it, it is a rub. But if by any chance it takes him two creatures to kill it, his character or his creatures will take 2 damage from the Acolyte AND you will draw 2 cards. The same assault against Manatide will just result in your own loss of your card-draw-guy, no cards drawn, and no damage done.
Both cards do the same thing usually, which is present the opponent with 3 Health to deal with, while drawing you a card. But Acolyte of Pain has a better potential outcome than Manatide Totem. Adjust Shaman Arenas as needed: Acolyte of Pain (common) is better than Manatide Totem (rare).

I can envision a deck made for Manatide. Tons of direct damage, undervalued creatures, and taunt. Whatever it takes to keep the Manatde Totems flowing. The Spice is life....

Constructed Highlight #1 - Ninja Totem - YouTube
3 posts below this one is Angel talking about a guy named Noxious on Youtube who immediately performs a flawless victory with two Manatide Totems in Constructed. That having been said, and with full recognition of who he is, I still say Acolyte is better than Manatide.
