I would love to see the nuts and bolts of the Matchmaking system. Started an arena this morning and am 1-1 after two really tough matches. I'm playing against decks that I normally see after 4+ wins. My first game, I beat a Druid with 2 legendaries (Cenarius and Mogor the Ogre) and tons of huge minions. Second game, I lost to a mage with a bunch of water elementals and other good magey stuff. My deck has a Sylvanas, so I'm wondering if they take that into account when match-making. This guy has a legendary so lets match him against other people with legendaries in their decks... It's just curious that my 0-0 and 1-0 games were against strong decks that I don't normally see until 4+ wins.

And now, just lost my third match (was 1-1) to a Druid with another legendary - Mekengineer. I have never, and I mean this when I say never, played 3 such strong decks right off the bat for my 0-0, 1-0, and 1-1 games. Something is different or the RNG is having special fun with me. To top it all off, my legendary, Sylvanas, has never made it from my deck to my hand over the course of 3 games (37 turns plus mulligans). Really having a WTF moment.

Rumor has it that arena's MMR is foremost based on losses and wins are secondary. So at 0-0 and 1-0 you are likely to be matched with other people at zero losses, meaning they could be 10-0 with a sick ass draft. I feel like this makes sense based on personal experience. I've had many arenas where it was a good but not amazing draft but I got my ass kicked two games in a row, then won five straight. Would stand to reason you are seeing a greater percentage of worse decks if matched up with other two loss people.

So, I lost my 4th and final match against a Warlock who had yet another legendary. He used a Summoning Portal to play Lord Jaraxxus on Turn 7, which if you look back over the past page or 2 is kind of ironic and also rage-inducing.

Something is definitely off, or has changed, or I've just had the craziest RNG streak ever. It seems to me that my drafting a legendary put me in some other bracket where people had kick-ass decks. I played 4 matches (win, loss, loss, loss) and all decks were very strong. (For context: I'm not a complete noob Arena player - I average 4.5 wins.) Like I said before, the type of deck that I only see after 4 wins usually. First played 2 legendaries, 2nd none (but I'm betting he had one), third one, and fourth one. That is some crazy RNG shit to play 4 arena matches and have 4 legendaries played against you. Something is different/off/broken... I don't know which.

Shit happens, its not even THAT unusual to get a legendary in arena. I've drawn lots of them, doesn't even surprise me to see the orange pop up anymore.

Sure, but to have 4 played against you in 4 matches? Especially at poor records of 0-0, 1-1, and 1-2. I usually don't see that shit until 4+ wins. Even going 12-2, I didn't face 4 legendaries.

I just ended an 8 win mage, no poly, flamecannons or flamestrikes. My final lost was against a Pally with Rag and Tirion.

How many fireballs though? Honestly that's my favorite arena card bar none. I'd take as many as it offers me. I think I had five one time and got like 11 wins out of it.

I mean I get it but unless you've tracked your arenas and can point to stats on facing legendaries it might not be that much of an anomaly statistically.

Haha. Legendaries I don't mind. It's "The Perfect Storm" hands that blow you out by turn 5 that get to me in arena. Did you see that bullshit I posted a few pages back? Got damns. I'm still running that arena deck and it's like 6-1 now but he beat my ass so bad I damn near lost interest in playing.

It's also largely dependent on the control warrior still running BGH, which I guess isn't super common in the current meta. Handlock is still one of the worst possible decks for the meta though.
I haven't seen any midrange or control decks not running BGH since GvG came out, honestly. Dr. Boom is too ubiquitous. Agro runs him. Control runs him. Mid-range runs him.

There was a huge reddit thread where people friended their opponents and asked for their record in arena for every win/loss. Under five wins it was basically always identical. So 5-0 was almost always playing another 5-0 person, 5-1 was playing 5-1, etc. It tries to match exact record, then it'll go +-1, then +-2, etc. Once you're above a certain number of wins you are much more likely to get a person with a different record, for obvious reasons. Getting a legendary in an arena deck is roughly one out of three drafts will have one. So the odds, while not enormous, aren't that small. Just a matter of embracing a statistical universe.

Prepare to see this deck around soon, if not already. Trump just hit #1 with it

Yeah there's been a surge of pallies today and they seem like that shit or close to it. Its not even really anything too unusual, just the standard midrange paladin with some tech slot variations.

Yeah my default pally list is only a couple cards off that list. I really disagree with the single zombie chow though, its such a powerful card in this aggro heavy meta. Also playing paladin means you're basically conceding against oil rogue, just an fyi.

What he said. I was going to rank up a bit this week with my Paladin version (closer to Strifecro's 33 win streak deck) since I'm a scrubby rank 10. But after seeing this, I'm going oil rogue.
