I've been running a really consistent Paladin deck. Probably 90% win rate. I lose very rarely to terrible early draws or late game double pyro mages (who happen to get the god draw of Mana wrym + mirror image + coin) and draw both pyros.

Think I finally managed to make a decent rogue deck. Decided that Edwin VanCleef and Patient Assassins were just dead weight most of the time as were Preparation and Sprint. Added Azure Drakes, Mana Addicts, and Young Priestesses instead and it seems to have made all the difference.

Still undecided if there are better card options for Headcrack and Deadly Poison since I don't run Assassin's Blade. Found it to be too expensive most of the time. Perdition's Blade and the standard hero ability works just fine in most instances.

The Kidnapper is just a terrible card. 6 mana for a 5/3 with a situational combo is just way too easy to kill at the point in the game where it would actually become useful.

last I heard, the ranking just isnt in yet. so you basically rank up every win. and max out currently.
Nah, there is a ranking system that is working, but it is hard to really tell anything based off of your current rank currently and you can't rank down. But it is currently using a ranking system similar to sc2's, you have a hidden mmr number, you gain points for beating someone around your mmr level, you gain more points for beating someone at a higher level, and you lose more points for getting beat by someone at a lower level. They have come to realize a system like this doesn't really work in hearthstone so they are changing it.

Would anyone be interested in a Rerolled Hearthstone tournament? Just for fun, no prize or anything (unless Tuco wants to offer a custom title).

Why wouldn't that work for Hearthstone? That's (roughly) how MTG and Chess ratings work.

That would be easy to cheat the system. Play a match, then spend 30 seconds instant conceding 3 in a row to lower your rating. Then play again against someone lower than you should for an easy win / gold. Repeat. If they make ranking actually matter, like weekly rewards for higher rank or whatever, it wouldn't be a problem. As of right now though, the only thing increasing your ranking does is make it harder to win games and complete quests.

Do they use MMR for unranked matches? Or is it completely random who you play against? I'm tempted to think that they use MMR since my opponents tend to not be total scrubs. But it could be that the general player base is improving?

Also, I ranked from 1-star diamond to 1-star masters over the weekend. I guess I had tanked my MMR and had to build it back up again.

Yeah, pretty sure you have an mmr for unranked matches, it is just seperate from your ranked number.

Yeah, I really don't enjoy how unbalanced decks in arena can get, they need a better format. Clearly there is some skill involved or people like ek0p wouldn't have a 70-80% win rate in arena (his win rate is high enough that he has like 4,000+ gold banked last I checked), but sometimes the RNG of which cards you can pick just screws you.
The Paladin deck I just had was insane. Ravenholdt Assassin that could get to 30 attack on the 8th turn without too much luck. Nothing they can do about it when you summon a stealth and slowly buff it up or just do it all in one go and have infinite 1/1's you can fuck with them and hold off in the mean time. I think Paladin is by far the best arena deck. I had 3 truesilver champions as well, so good.

The RNG on the cards is bullshit. A lot of the times you have a bunch of ass cards or 3 essential cards.

I find the selection for arena to be really bizarre. The other day trump got 6? rare draws in a row, up front, and more rare+ later. I get 3 non common cards on average. My 8 win was with a druid basic+2 blue deck, which only beat people who received worse cards than me. And lost only to people who received multiples of purple and legendary and rare. Not "or" they got multiples for all of the above. Very rarely do I or my opponent outplay each other. It feels like an arena in the sense of Roman gladiator entertainment. Will you get full body armor and a shield? Will your opponent be a naked half-dead slave with one arm missing?

I'd love it if they added real Sealed deck competition. Or at least min-max on uncommon draw.
Exactly. In a MTG sealed/draft you all had the same amount of rares/uncommons/commons. The only difference being recently with the small chance to get a mythic instead of rare, MAYBE 2 once in a fucking lifetime. But with Hearthstone, you can get no epics/legendaries and only a few rares, or you can get 20 legendaries. it's fucking retarded.

Such bullshit sometimes in arena. You get nothing but rogue/lock/druid and every card is pure shit.

You go against nothing but paladin and priests with legendaries and top decking like fucking kings.

you could say that they got the blessing of a king there

lately I noticed that many people try to craft a more aggressive deck in arena as well with lots of weenies to rush down their opponent before the bad shit hits the floor

They shouldn't, but the draft simply shouldn't be random. Game is random enough already with the draw or the cards you draft, having rarity being random during the draft also is stupid. Give every deck 1 legendary and 2-3rares or whatever the numbers should be, doesn't really matter it can be fine tuned.

From what I've read about MtG's Sealed format, that's what I would like Arena to emulate.

Make the rarity distribution uniform, give the player a pool of say 50 cards to make a 30 card deck from. Non-selected cards go into a sideboard. You can exchange cards from your deck with the sideboard after a loss.

Needs a waaaaaaaay bigger card pool for that to happen. A 50 card pool would essentially be every class card + every card that matters from the general pool (minus legendaries, most of which blow).

Looks as if I got an Americas invitation a while ago that I didn't see. I'll sell it for $30 :p. That's cheaper than Ebay yo, just Paypal me and you'll have it instantly. PM me if interested. Otherwise I suppose I'll activate it for all the free arena bonuses. Sucks I didn't check my E-Mail and have spent all this time progressing my GF's account haha. Keys aren't being given out anymore apparently, not till open.
