It was the perfect storm of webspinner, undertaker, and mad scientist all hitting at once on top of unleash/buzzard. So you had to play around unleash but also had to be able to answer undertaker before it grew out of control. Hunter was completely unstoppable for a couple months there.

I might be mistaken, but wasn't unleash/buzzard nerfed before undertaker/mad sci/webspinner?

Nope you are right it was after Naxx had already finished. Christ what a clusterfuck that time was.

Just played against a Lock named Feargaus who played a gold version of every single card he played... both class and neutrals. Crazy. Haven't seen anything like that before.

Is he a known pro?

Nah, there's a lot of people that have all golds for particular decks. Just a matter of $$$ and/or time.
I don't even play that often and I'm about to start making some gold decks myself. Got a bit of dust to spend atm.
Doesn't even matter what rank too, I see just as many golden decks at rank ~17 as I do at rank ~5

Its not unreasonable to expect to see all golden decks. I've spent ~60 bucks total from the game's start and I have a decent number of gold cards and 3200+ dust sitting in the bank. And I de'd a lot of gold cards in the beginning. If you've spend just 2-3 hundred on the game and played as much as someone like I have, you probably have your favorite deck golden.

Yeah I love gold cards but I'm still missing enough playable legends that there's no way I'll actually spend dust crafting them.

Still regret some of the golds I dusted back before I started saving all of them, like my playset of golden mirror entities because 'this card sucks and nobody will ever play it'.

I love me some gold status, on the other hand, I can't stand that shit when its in my hand. It's like bling teeth or some shit. Love the animations while my cards are on the board, can't stand it when its in my hand.

Some people just have too much disposable income for their own good. I wouldn't say that all gold decks are common but you see them occasionally. Plus the game has been out long enough that people have had a chance to just collect a bunch. I stopped dusting gold cards for the extra dust months ago and now keep them no matter how bad they are.

Once you have some finished decks gold is sorta useless. I have 1500 right now or something and not sure what to do with it. So I'd assume a lot of people just grab decks with it even if they don't need anything and then make goldens for the heck of it.

Mad Scientist/Webspinner/Undertaker brought it back.

Shortly before Naxxramas it was one of the strongest decks until they nerfed Starving Buzzard to break up it's combo with Unleash the Hounds.

Lately I've been thinking about just trashing completely unplayable cards in the quest for golden playable ones. I dunno, I basically have a complete collection so that thought feels bad.

Nah, Curse dropped in July, Leeroy/Buzzard nerf was september.
Anyway this is the first time in several seasons I've actually laddered instead of just doing my dailies and quitting, and I forgot how much RNG ruins this fucking game. Sick to death of 4 point implosions and perfect juggles. Or both together.

ESPORTS!

It has kept me off of the ladder the past couple months at least as well. Easy enough to just do dailies and hit 10 or so which is more than enough for the card back. I usually end up playing some new deck for a few days a month at least, last month was dragon Pally which was pretty fun if not terribly effective.
