You'd think MTG drafting experience would help with this, but it seems to be the opposite for me. I made some really stupid choices for mine, but today I learned why 2x Pit Lord is not a good idea (still don't recall the other choices being better...)

I think the difference between sealed deck in magic vs arena in hearthstone, at least back when I played magic, sealed deck was a pretty slow format. Arena is pretty fast and if you draft a lot of quality 2-3 cost creatures with class-based removal they can often feel like constructed decks.

They'd probably start a new arena 'season' and put the new set of cards into the arena, but leave the class specific cards in the rotation.
quality of people has risen, the more casual crowd stopped playing, only the "hardcores" remain

I have been grinding the dailies in unranked mode. I haven't switched that icon over to ranked mode yet to try that. Is there any difference or benefit to being in one mode or the other? From what my co-worker told me, if he is correct, the only thing ranked gets me is some kind of icon to show my player level.

You've never gone 9-3. It's not currently possible.
But yeah, that's limited. Even the best professional MTG players 0-3 their draft pods sometimes.
The ability to account for inherent randomness and still have a high win-rate IS the skillset that limited (draft/sealed) play is meant to test.

This guy is a very above average MTG limited player, but nowhere near the best in the world, and he has over 80% match win rate in HS. MTGO has been having some serious problems lately so he's playing HS almost exclusively. His streams are usually pretty good.
I think they said at Blizzcon you get the new cards through the adventure modules, but not sure what they are doing for arena.
I'm not sure what they can add at this point without throwing the game completely out of wack. Add more useful secrets, and that changes the meta.

Arena feels quite a bit tougher than a month ago when I started (or I'm just getting worse). Getting 9 wins is becoming rare for me and winrate is slowly going down.

The match making system is bullshit for beginners. Says it is searching for an opponent of plays so my skill level but some how I get matched up with a guy that is dropping Gold Cards on my head and I feel like I am in a Water Play Golden Shower Scene. I am sure there are people like me just starting out with 1 Heroes at lvl 10 and no real good cards to speak of, why wont it match me with them?
Yep, the lower end is being weeded out. Many more people are learning how to more effectively play the game, and the ones that haven't are just getting bored and leaving, especially now that the blizzcon tournament hype is dying down and some of the top streamers have moved on to other games.
Getting 9 wins now is more a sign of a lucky draft and not getting shafted on draws than it is being zomg so much more skilled! than the other guy.

I think the changes they talked about at Blizzcon will help the game a lot. A reworked ranking system to better match players, and the adventure mode content for more card sources as well as more solo content for those who aren't at the top of the game. I've gotten bored of Hearthstone as well for the reasons stated above, feels like the only people I'm placed against lately are the super hardcore who have every card to build with.

Getting the heroes all to 10 wasn't that bad. I'm now in the gap where I've spent my initial gold and not much dust. Even the low budget decks people have listed seems like they will take a while to assemble at this clip.
