Magic has things you can do on your opponents turn. The argument against charge is it gives your opponents no chance to play around it or react unlike most creatures. Really though it often just plays out as the same as a direct damage spell so I don't entirely buy that argument. Magic is better and more balanced of a CCG but Hearthstone is damn easier to log in and play a game so you get what you get :p

Hearthstone doesn't need more invite only shit, it needs more open stuff with big prize pools.
Agree. What they really need is to step on the gas with sets for a bit to get a more diverse card pool as well as a robust tournament structure. Then the final piece is to take cool unique game rules for tournaments and force people to build decks on the fly. Instead of only long planned out netdeck meta sessions, actually reward creative deck building and quick reaction to meta themes you see.

I have a theory why they don't do more pool play.

I think the people that run the tournaments are scared that the popular streamer/tournament players they fly in will be RNGed out in early rounds which would pretty much waiste their investment.

But really they should not be. What they need to do is have open tournaments which will have new blood constantly coming in, and not support a system where only some can succeed.

They can still have Exhibitions with streamers that are rivals etc. It in the long run will be a more exciting format for everyone, and grow the game.

One last thing, Blizzard needs to actively sponsor more open tournaments. This is something Capcom does for their game etc.

A tournament mode where i can say put 50g into a pot where the top 1-3 win all would be amazing, but with the release of tavern brawl I have my doubts if something of the sort will ever happen.

OK what the fuck Blizzard once again. Tavern Brawl down for one day? Why? They couldn't make two decks in a week or one of their other game modes happen? They are the WURST. Like a shitty, shitty WURST.

They specifically said there would be a day or two between brawls. The chance of them not already having like a dozen lined up mostly ready to go is pretty small considering how absurdly easy they are to make and also the amount of stuff datamined. It's an intentional break. Riot does the same thing with featured game modes in League except it's a few WEEKS of break instead of a day or two.

I don't doubt Blizzard probably have at least a dozen Tavern Brawls lined up, but I can't help but think they really painted themselves into a corner with this mode. Now they are required to have something new every week. Automated tournaments would have required practically 0 maintenance on Blizzard's part. Tavern Brawls aren't really comparable to Riot's featured modes since Riot keeps them around for a few weeks and there is no button looking at you in the face, they just appear, this Tavern Brawl thing is going to force Blizzard to be on a quicker timetable than they're typically use to.

I don't think that Tavern Brawls take up -that- much of Blizzard's time. For this first Tavern Brawl, they pulled directly from the Blackrock Mountain Adventure. Tomorrow, we'll see what the next one is, but if I had to make a guess, I'd say it'd be something like "Now that you've seen how Nefarian and Ragnaros work, make your own decks with the heroes / their cards!".

Point being, they have a bunch of work that they've already put into their Adventure modes to pull from, and Tavern Brawl allows them to reuse that work in a PvP environment.

I would bet we just see more of these silly boss battles for a little while. I'd be surprised if deck building pops in so soon, but hopefully they got enough flack that they will try it out sooner rather than later.

Challengestone-esque deckbuilding seems easy enough on their end. And to top it off they will more than likely have repeat brawls, especially with the construct-your-own rulesets.

Will have to listen to the rules a couple more times but first impression is I like the idea of the team needing the team to perform well and not just a single member on the team.

Up to rank 14 using a shitty Druid mill deck, shit is hilarious, they get so close to winning and then I heal for 16+.

Patron warrior is hard

Emperor into spider = 2 minions damaged
Ghoul into Highmane = 2 minions damaged
Ghoul explosion on minions (Highmane, Emperor, 2x spiders, Commander, 2x Berserkers) = 7 minions damaged

11 minions damaged, and each berserker has 2 attack, so 2x13 = 26, exact lethal
