They "finished" the front today. Their finishing work on the lattice can use some work, but it looks better than a giant concrete slab that it's covering.

Posting my house hoping no one decides to doxx me for the 3rd time.

I hate the lattice on my deck. The wind never stops trying to rip it off. I don't know what to replace it with though. Calling in the swat team on 310 something or other now.

Well.... He didn't show up today.... So...

Neighbors asked me what the hell their schedule is and I told them I have no idea but I'd never recommend them to anyone.
I'm hoping you at least get your deposit amount worth of work out of them at least.

So he showed back up on Monday but then ghosted you again on Tuesday?

He's probably still trying to rustle up enough deposit money from new customers to pay for Noodle's materials since he spent Noodle's deposit money on the materials he needed to finish his last two jobs.

That's the biggest reason I never went into business for myself.

That's also why I got the fuck out of Resi

Chasing people for checks and having to rob Peter to pay Paul is the most ridiculous, penny ante bullshit ever. And then juggling clients and doing JUST ENOUGH to keep Client #1 happy before then changing directions and running over to Client #2 is just insane.

Then you have to manage a bunch of employees that either have little to no experience (that's why they're in Resi) or they've got a long-ass criminal record, or a massive drinking problem and 3+ DUIs, or they're Illegal, or they just do shit work and then you get to debate with yourself whether they're "good enough" because they're fast (and you're always behind) or if you need to try slowing them down and making them do actual decent work for once, because the 'fast work' they do is a complete and utter shitshow.

Like when Kajiimagi Kajiimagi mentioned nursing home work, and his issue with finding people, I just got a case of the shudders.

A buddy of mine is making way more than I do, doing remote software stuff, with way less experience in his trade than I have in mine. And he just spent several years working from home 100%. Now they're forcing him back into the office 1-2 days week (I think?) even though the rest of his team lives far enough away from their respective offices that they still get to work from home. And while I get why he's salty, I'm still just blown away about how good he still has it. I'll always have his back, but holy shit, he has it so good and he'll never realize how much worse it could be.

Just help him move far enough away to be 100% remote.

Has anyone ever had their water tested and are the home testing kits reliable?

My tenant suddenly started complaining about the taste of the water yesterday. My water tastes normal to me, and I went down and tasted theird too and it tastes... like water. And when I asked her to describe it she called it "gross, suddenly just awful" and said it tasted "bitter and like sewage".

I'm actually concerned she (or maybe I?) have a medical condition based on these wildly differing opinions but now I'm paranoid for no good reason and am wondering if I should just get it tested anyway. Two reasons for me actually caring enough to test:

1) The town started work replacing an old water main on September 9th
2) The pressure regulator in my house went bad and I had it replaced last week

So, things have actually happened recently to the water delivery in my house and in my town.

I test basic stuff but if you want to actually test particulates and separate it out I'd go with a lab.

Call your municipality or look at their website to see if they offer free testing.

I've had city water, fed from a lake source, get a lake mud "fishy" smell before, but still have it taste ok. I've also used a Watersafe test kit before (recommended by someone who owns houses in Argentina and Costa Rica) and it should be able to test for the most common dangers, like heavy metals and bacteria counts. Make sure to read how the measurements stack up, as something might show up on the test but be well below the limit for safe drinking.

This rundown I just found seems to have a good summery on it (LINK):

I went out and bought the watersafe full test ($35). Everything was good except Iron is right around .3ppm which is just above I guess what you typically "want" but not dangerous? Called the town they said there had been some roadwork recently which can cause temporary rises in Iron levels when pipes get "shaken". Said to wait a day or two and if it doesn't go away they will come out and flush the system. I guess some of my taxes do actually pay!
