Trying to recruit more women?
I was waiting for it to slip off and decapitate that dude.
When I looked into a few options yearly this year, late last year, it was in the 7 - 9 range to break even. Would be sooner if I didn’t get a 25% discount on my electric bill through work.Agreed but last I read they were still just guessing at install costs and it had lots of bugs. I priced conventional solar (panels on racks etc) out for my house, wanted 105% usage, I own the place outright and would need to live here for 900 years to break even much less pay for it.
Also consider, inflation, aging infrastructure, and increased electricity demands might cut that down a smidge along the way. Too lazy too look, but pretty sure there's a 5 page derail nearby on the impending electricity cost doom.900 years to break even
Yea but if you think they're going to let people with solar avoid paying for the grid long term you're being silly. Also consider, inflation, aging infrastructure, and increased electricity demands might cut that down a smidge along the way. Maybe, but I doubt there will be enough people with basically full-coverage solar to matter, unless it gets considerably cheaper of course. As long as 99% of people are happy paying whatever increased rates come along, hopefully there won't be a "well, you bought some solar panels 20 years ago, so here's your bonus grid-that-you-don't-use tax".Yea but if you think they're going to let people with solar avoid paying for the grid long term you're being silly.
I'm coming at it from the other side. I install this stuff. I may have derailed this somewhere in the past, I'll go search.....oh yeah never mind.
105% on paper = somewhere around 85% real world on a good day. I'm in the very hot desert and solar loses efficacy over about 90 degrees. The inverter, which is a major source of cost, will last 10 years if you are lucky. Every vendor / manufacturer you deal with is a slimy shit-lord. It's also full of hassles, how do I know? Cuz I'm one of the poor bastards they call when the system we sold them doesn't output like we told them it would.
Body/brain/etc is to the point now where I'd have to pay someone to install it and I'm past the point of wanting to deal with the BS.
My roof will not support solar but I have an acre back yard that is all rocks. I was going to do racks. In fact if the initiative hadn't been voted down that allowed homeowners to sell extra capacity back to the utility I would have had an acre of solar panels and called it a solar farm ! but it did. Got several quotes, 1 being the company I work for. They were highest....?!!?I have a large roof exposed on the south side so I would totally do solar if it made sense. Unfortunately it doesn't make sense quite yet here. It's getting closer though because of retarded green policies and extreme electricity costs. Problem is I don't really want to redo my roof after installing panels and I don't need a new roof for another 10-15 years. Tesla roof conceptually is the most desirable but pricing is just very high.
isn't that the only good thing for early adopters? the utils now are saying fuck you to extra capacity buyback, but like the ones that got in on solar in the 00s still have an og contract w/ the utils that they'll buyback the extra power at the same rateMy roof will not support solar but I have an acre back yard that is all rocks.
