I liked the movie quite a bit. Minor issues, wasn't a big fan of the kid but he didn't ruin it either, could have done with more Iron Man and less Stark, etc.

In regards to Pepper:
I had no issues with her being able to use the suit. He blatantly stated in the movie that he has to protect her because she's the one thing that means more than anything else to him. So of course he's going to code every one of his suits to also accept her.

As far as the Extremis stuff, we all knew it was going to save her. I was a little put off by her flying ninja death punch to the chest, but I'll chalk it up to superhero magic. I was more turned off by how they wrapped everything up and put a nice little bow on it. "Pepper is cured, and I finally got rid of that shrapnel that I've probably had the technology to remove for years now." I sort of expected an "And they all lived happily ever after" floating in the air at the end. I'm fine with them having a happy ending, but curing Extremis alone is a huge accomplishment. I know that Tony downplays a lot of that shit on purpose, but it just struck me as a bit too contrived is all.

I thought 3 was mediocre at best and my least favorite of the "triology".

Beefs I had, in no particular order:

* Molten dudes are still flesh and bone and should've crumpled like a sack of potatoes
* Just because an object is excessively hot doesn't mean it will cut through a supposedly high durable super-metal instantly.
* IS the Iron Man suit highly durable? Because it appeared pretty damn flimsy in this film.
* When I go to see an Iron Man movie I want to see Iron Man kicking ass and looking cool. NOT Tony Stark running around suit-less or in a beat-up, gimp ass version.
* Mandarin being some hollywood wanna-be actor was lame, as many have said. Also, did he shoot that guy in the head? In retrospect that seems out of character for what he was.

No he didn't shoot the dude, they said all the guns were props. Or maybe he was forced to shoot him for real or something I suppose.

Well iirc they never actually show him shooting the dude on camera, they cut away to show the horrified reaction shots. So maybe he was just firing a blank underneath the view of the camera and everyone just assumed he executed because the Mandarin is this brutal terrorist so why wouldn't he have shot the guy

Iron Man 3 is a perfect example of why botching the superhero formula ruins a good Hollywood special-effects movie. Have the Dark Knight and the Avengers set the bar too high? Or is this just a flawed movie that should have been much better?

I really liked this film for the first half of it. It rode the afterglow of the Avengers and took Tony Stark on an interesting ride. He struggled, he failed, he overcame, and his relationship with Potts became stronger. But none of that shit was fun to watch. The beating Tony Stark took was like Jesus in the Passion of the Christ without the pay off.

Why? Why did this movie suck so hard?

Because there was no villain.

It had a villain. It had plenty of interesting characters that MIGHT have been great villains. Ignoring the actor, any - FUCKING ANY - of the super soldiers for example, could have been great villains. Or maybe the scientist one-night-stand. She could have made a great villain. Or the fucking Vice President of the United States. He could have made a great villain. But no. Instead of a cardboard religious fanatic, the "real" villain was a businessman that wanted money. Why? Because he wanted money. Was he a flawed man that was driven by an insatiable desire for greed above all else? Nope. Was he driven for a higher purpose? Nope. He just wanted money because money. Oh, and he was a cunt to people. Real edgy. One-dimensional villain.

The story was really quite good. But because there was no looming threat of a villain in this film none of the act 2 struggles really mattered. It was just some rich dude fighting another rich dude because money.

The kid's dialogue was not plausible to me. It wasn't his acting as much as what he was saying. Everytime he spoke I was like "this is what a 16 year old might say, not an 11 year old".
It's still way better than having 8 year olds say things a 35 year old might say. Which happens a lot.

This was the 3rd best Iron Movie:

1. Avengers
2. Iron Man 1
3. Iron Man 3
4. Iron Man 2

All of the individual hero's movies just seem like too much at this point. Unnecessary filler for what we know is the good stuff. That said, I am sure I will be seeing Thor and Winter Soldier their opening weekends... so I am a hypocrite, on that level.

There was other shit, but y'all are covering that fine. I'm quite ignorant of Iron Man so discrepancies in the characters were unnoticed.
So you have never met a kid who is older than his years would otherwise say. They made it a point to show the kid didn't have a dad for the last several years, and growing up like that tends to make kids grow up faster. I know I had to : /

So going into the movie I was already pissed about about The Mandarin's rings being fucked with and just being symbolic.

Are you fucking kidding me? They take a character that is as The Joker is to Batman and just totally go out of their way to appear like a fucking joke? Not only is a main villain, the dude is a total BADASS. I have never raged at a comic book movie....ever. But holy fucking fuck. Seriously what the fuck? FUCK!

-sigh-

That being said, separating that and just looking at the movie as a non Iron Man comic fan...it was enjoyable. I still feel the way they had The Mandarin turn out was a bit hokey and lame but whatever. Movie was still fun. Comic Book Rage aside, as an objective none comic book fan I'd rate the movie a 7.5 borderline 8 out of 10.

But fuck.....ugh

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the whole beginning of the extremis arc Tony getting his ass royally kicked because the extremis soldiers (who do indeed breath fire) are just that powerful?

For as much as they butchered The Mandarin, I thought they handled Extremis really well.

This. Extremis was spot on. Outside of a few logistics and being picky it was done really well. I'm with everyone else though, I don't get the Mandarin angle at all. You had a great actor and look. He appeared to capture the role really well. I think you could have completely used Killian as secondary villian and still had the final battle with the Mandarin. If they had IM4 locked down they could have created a cliffhanger before facing the Mandarin. Anyway, for an action movie, I had a blast. For a comic book / super hero movie I was left wanting more and even frustrated. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, even with May being filled with blockbusters, it's still going to be a good flick.

Ultimately, i'm holding my opinions for Thanos. Marvel/Disney will get a lot of byes from me due to the Avengers and their other movies being pretty solid as well. However, i'm still curious how they handle a being like Thanos. If they pull it off, I want Galactus and Dr. Doom revisited with a Secret Wars finale.

Nothing tussles my timboys more than Tony Stark being self-confident and cocky to the world, but a complete and utter bitch for 'dem sugar walls. I get it, Hollywood Trope. Potter turned his ass out.

It actually sort of amuses me listening to all of the radio commercials for this movie now that I've seen it. Every single one of them has The Mandarin spouting all of his doom and gloom, death to Iron Man schtick. Not a mention of anything else.

Yeah, that's the troll. Their whole promo is done around the Mandarin, then you go see the movie and you're like "What?!".

I liked it quite a bit, my mom and dad enjoyed it too. I'm not super into staying 100% to the comics, so the Mandarin stuff didn't really bug me, especially since so much of these movies is really taken from the Ultimates universe. I really can't think of anything that disappointed me in the movie. I'd have liked to have see abitmore Iron Man, but I loved all the Tony Stark stuff and it was all good fun.

Also my mom totally nerded out about recognizing another Avenger in the post-credits.

would you be okay with going to see a Batman movie and The Joker being turned into a piece of shit character? Or how about your favorite video game/anime made into a movie and the main villain being turned into a joke?
