Only mildly relevant, really.

Just had both of my direct reports and the director of division (well, this morning at any rate) drop in on my "fuck with server infrastructure" department and tell us they are funding training/classes and testing fees for myself and two others to get our CCIE DC certs, since I have a small collection of certs at this point and I'm the most likely to complete the task within ~9 months. End result is ~120kish and that's with sub two years experience in this field, with a lot of other shit on the horizon.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this was a solid move from hospitality management.

So I had the successful final round interview earlier this week at the dream company and I'm waiting to hear an official offer. If they come at me with the $10k less money offer again, what's a diplomatic way to negotiate at least what I'm already making now?

Truthfully, I'm thinking I'd rather contract at a higher rate (laid back office) vs a full time role/$10k cut (more responsibility/title).

I'm beginning to really think about this in preparation for the possibility I have to decide a serious life choice soon.

Thx fam

Money aside (yes, that's heavily weighted for some people), you already called it "the dream company". If a temporary sacrifice furthers your career, it's probably still a good move, provided it's not a dead end position. If it were, I don't even think you'd be considering it.

Stability is good. I stopped contracting years ago, even though my salary would have been way higher for certain stints, and I'm not even remotely upset that I gave up the money. I never worry about losing a contract or not having steady income now. Work-wise, best decision I've made.

Any Avaya engineers/analysts (or if you know of any) in the Boston Ma. or Reston VA. vicinity looking to change companies? Send me your resume and I will walk it into my director's office if it is a quality resume. I also promise a review of said resume by myself, another engineer and that director or a manager next week since it's Friday.

If you have any NICE, Verizon ECR, or eIVR in your background, I can almost guarantee you a nice gig.

If the money isn't right I wouldn't really care what the company is. I just got lucky that I asked for a number I thought was fair and Blizzard immediately accepted it.

I mean, of course that means you went low, but thats ok. If you're getting what you wanted and the company thinks its low for what they're getting, it's a win/win.

Same thing happened at Raytheon. They offered 10k more than I made now at a higher title ( I know, but it matters to me). Realistically I should've countered. Worst they could've said was no.

Maybe but I don't think thats the case. A company with an active glassdoor you can pretty much feel out what the salaries are for the positions. I just came in higher than the average -- and actually somewhat close to the max reported.

What does kind of suck is that ~25% of my salary is wrapped into bonuses. Even though this is bilzzard so the profit bonuses are almost guaranteed and my end-of-year bonus is 100% guaranteed I can't use that money to apply for a mortgage.

You'll be able to use that income once you have two years of regularly receiving bonuses, and whoever fills out your employment verification checks the box that bonuses are likely to continue. The lender would just average the two years. Obviously it won't work for you since you're looking for a home now.

At Akamai they told me bonuses we're virtually 100% and then when I started no one got any and they went on a hiring freeze. Fuck that place

This has been my experience with "bonuses are guaranteed! We have paid a bonus every year for 20 years!" places too. Why not just make it part of my salary then if you're so sure?

Yeah thats what my guy told me but I've only been here 9 months. It isn't like I'm not being approved for a big enough mortgage anyways. I'd prefer to treat my bonuses as funny money so I never rely on it.

I think the dudes that got them got 2.7%. So basically nothing. At least Akamai was 10k a year. Emc was in between

Do any of you good folk do client side web development? Such as Angular, React, etc.? I have a question concerning your development workflow.
