We have a license on some monitoring software we use expiring soon. One of our development group directors is in charge of renewing it. She asks this question in GChat this morning, verbatim including punctuation:

Is the software installed 'on prem' in our Azure environment? Wondering if we have the software or we make calls to it.

^^ This is the quality of leadership we have at my tech company.

I wish I had enough diversity points to get these jobs

Tell her your azure tenant varies day to day sometimes it's in Asia. Sometime in north America. Every 3rd month it's in your data center.

Everything is on "a" premises I guess. She should have been more specific.

We had an IT call today to negotiate a new Verizon Wireless contract today because I had discovered the company was paying $500 in overages a month. Get on the zoom call and it turns out our new account manager is a dude I played cards with for two decades.

Ended up with a pretty okay deal on unlimited plans for the company.

Any React front-end developers looking for additional contract, part-time, or even full time work? PM me. This would not be a personal side project but work for a legit(but small) startup company. I will try to update this post with our official job listing once we finalize it but figured I would just toss this to our resident shit-lords for now. This is a 100% remote position.

Huh? FBI because I asked if there are React developers looking for work? Is that a new glowie meme I missed out on?

It's mostly because having any incorrect political opinion in a large enough organization will kill your career instantly and make you unhireable. Anyone who has traditional values is persecuted, and since our enemies will go through the trouble of doxing and combing social media to find proof you haven't drunk the Kool-Aid, any break in anonymity is a risk.

If my employer found out that I wanted the 1965 civil rights law and the 14th and 19th amendments scrapped for example, I'd be branded a racist sexist homophobe bigot Nazi, terminated, probably have lawsuits and harassment to deal with, etc.

Also not to be that guy… but.. wasn’t MS going to release the azure stack to be able to be self hosted? So you could have your own little slice of azure life. But this was 6 years ago… when I was in that world… oh so long ago.

The Principal on my team ended up venting to me about our manager. Glad its not just me she does this to.

She has a degree of control freak about her and has to share screen and directly watch you do shit. Even when she can't even read Java for example so she asks you a million questions about what this is doing because she is really just an old school database developer.

I take this in stride lately because it just means less work for me. If she is so adamant about approving every single aspect of what I work on I just don't bother with anything until she does. When she asked why I "don't take initiative" I remind her of the dozen times she directly stopped me from doing whatever because she "wasn't aware" or "didn't approve."

I don't really like this but I kinda just want more freetime right now so it works out.

I have had this woman ask me to "convert all of this to SQL then send it to me so I can understand it." When referring to a python solution for something I had. I told her no I wasn't doing that.

I'll dick around on turtle for now. Ascension Bronzebeard and Conquest of Azeroth is where I want to really commit time to though. Whenever it goes live.

Unfortunately she is completely irreplaceable due to her expertise in archaic database systems that run a lot of the Healthcare industry. Our primary customer facing processes have 30-50 layers of data processing built into these systems. No source control, no comments, just layer after layer of byzantine ancient horseshit built over the past 40 or so years.

She pushed to be a manager due to severe empty nest syndrome and had one of those jobs where she did almost nothing unless something important needed to be done with the above archaic systems. She didn't like that much downtime. For some reason our leadership decided to entertain her request and here we are.

Now imagine your job is to enter data into these archaic database systems while pretending to listen to someone talk and you basically described being a healthcare provider post-2010s
