Great movie, watched it last night. Easily the best action movie I saw this year, including all the various superhero stuff. John Wick > Guardians of the Galaxy

I enjoyed The Equalizer a lot but I just like the humor and the way they built the character in John Wick. Judge Dredd is pretty much a tie with John Wick. The first Matrix beats all of them.

Well, to be fair the first Matrix is probably the best action movie of the past quarter century. It was groundbreaking.

I think you're all smoking crack.

John Wick was alright but pretty forgettable and the storyline was absolutely ridiculous and not in a good way. The main drawback was I can't find Keanu Reeves believable as a top tier hitman and I absolutely loved the first Matrix movie. As Neo he had an excuse for being able to do crazy shit because he was basically using godmode in a videogame.

Denzel is so far beyond Keanu in acting ability and believability in any role he plays that it isn't even close and I think The Equaliser was also pretty so-so.

A better movie than Guardians and Dredd? Fuck NO.

Holy crap that's a tough choice to make.

Funny how both those great movies had equally shitty sequels.
die hard 2 while being not very good, it wasnt what i would call a bad movie. die hard 3 was fucking great. 4 and 5 were horrible in comparison, but many franchises are dead by their 4th movie.

Hi, Rocky IV
yep, there are exceptions, james bond has like 30 movies, some of which are good some are just terrible. there are many franchises like pirates of the caribbean or superman that was DOA by the time their 4th films rolled around.

I enjoyed John Wick but it's definitely not the kind of film you buy and occasionally watch it several times. Action scenes were good, Keanu wasn't awful (IMO) but it's basically a movie where retired superkillerguy goes into a rampage because someone peed on his coffee. Writing wise anyone could write arm long analysis how dumb the movie is, but I had a good time because I knew what I got into. Same for The Equalizer or Taken movies, if you're looking to enjoy a good moment where you can put your brains on your lap and let it rest, these kind of movies does the trick. Unlike Matrix, I'd say. In 1999, Matrix has a good story, awesome action scenes (for its time) and also that "post-apocalypse" cyberpunk vibe. John Wick is rather an avenger type movie where good guy is a bad motherfucker and bad guys are pure, unforgiveable evil (here it's the russian mob).

Now I wanna watch The Continental spinoff flick, the premise (underworld hitman stuff), the characters and the actors (Reddick and Peters from The Wire, McShane from Deadwood) was kind of more exciting than Keanu going in stampede mode because dog is kill and car is steal.

because someone peed on his coffee? If ever there was a legitimate reason to go on a revenge-kill spree, it's because someone brutally murders your dead wife's puppy.

Yeah everyone seems to be forgetting that his dog was a puppy that his recently deceased wife had just gotten him to help him get over her (not just lolz random dog he had for a week time to murder bitches).

Also, i'd probably go on a killing spree if someone did, in fact, pee in my coffee. That shit's not cool.

The people not getting the breaking point, did you forget risking everything for his wife, had her die, and kill her dying gift/dog you while breaking into your house, beating you and stealing your car.... have you watched falling down?

The people that didn't get it are the same ones that go "wow, this song is awesome!" while the lyrics are pure shit.

Well, it's basically exactly what an action movie should be, just nearly endless badass action. 10 minutes to set it up to start, then just an hour + of awesome action rampage with a few small breaks mixed in for comedic relief or story advancement. It doesn't get much better than that for an action movie.

I don't watch movies like this for the complex or unique plot and narrative any more than I watch Wes Anderson movies for the action.

Great action movie. No more, no less.

For me I liked wick as the more believable super killer. He just had far superior gun skills compared to the guys he was up against. He made great use of cover and defensive shooting. He was skilled in hand to hand combat and sustained more realistic injuries.

I give credit to the equalizer for being very creative, however in the end he is using what appears to be a drywall nail gun to finish off the last guy at range...Those things have just enough pressure to not crack drywall, not shoot some one with at 30 feet.

All in all, I think wick wins.

i dont pretend to be any kind of carpenter or an expert on carpentry, but nail guns have a safety feature that they must be pressed against something in order to fire. i think there was worries about them in the 80s because some construction worker was fucking around with one and accidentally shot some dude in the head and he died. it caused a bunch of butthurt in the media and people started calling for a gun license in order to use one. they introduced the safety changes to avoid it.
