I played the remasters of Romancing Saga 2 and 3 in the past and liked both of them a lot, but RS1 was way more inaccessible and I kinda gave up on that one which is a bummer.
So is the whole game essentially about using basic attacks as much as you possibly can, constantly cycling through your weapons (and spells when you can spare the MP), dragging out encounters so that you can gain TP? Because that's what I got out of the demo's gameplay. I never played the originals, and I know this remake added BP restoration right before a boss (but also increased boss difficulty across the board to make up for it... so in effect the BP restoration really only makes it easier to get TP for stuff that costs BP to use), but still... I want to like the game enough to preorder it for Switch, but it seems like something that could become a slog long before you get to the end.

Hello dear backers!

In parallel with the DLC we've been working on the next major update for Sea of Stars titled Dawn of Equinox, which is officially set to arrive on all platforms on November 12!

Dawn of Equinox will bring to life the completed vision for Sea of Stars, incorporating everything that couldn’t be included at launch, along with some of the most requested features and improvements informed by feedback from players.

Join us on a Twitch livestream tomorrow at 2PM ET for an in-depth look at the plethora of changes coming to the game. For now, here’s an overview of what this free update has to offer.

DAWN OF EQUINOX UPDATE OVERVIEW

3 Player Local Co-op

Sea of Stars’ story will be playable in its entirety by up to three players, with allies traversing the world together and mastering a new Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic. What was initially presented as a very limited “Single Player +” mode has evolved into a full-fledged Co-op experience.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s stream for a comprehensive breakdown of this all-new mode.

Combat 2.0

The addition of Mystery Locks brings a new gameplay loop around revealing the ways to break the spells of new enemies entering the fray. Along with "Reveal" functions added to some of the special skills, Combo Points now remain after battle, offering new ways to open certain encounters, or test different damage types on enemies to reveal their locks.

A comprehensive balancing pass has also been done to reflect both these new changes and player feedback since launch.

A revamped prologue

Implementing combat for the young versions of our heroes, the updated flow does away with the flashback structure to begin in their childhood directly including action in the prologue.

Bonus Cinematic Scene

An entirely new cutscene has been added to accentuate a pivotal moment in the original adventure, referred to as "Paths on Water".

A Speedrunner Mode Relic

This new item activates a range of features helpful for those looking to set a new personal best or world record.

Difficulty Presets

Three difficulty options are now available when starting a new game, which are presets using the game's Relics. New Relics have also been added, both for quality of life and difficulty adjustments.

Reviews are out. This is one of my favorite reviewers for more niche/Japanese games. They dont give out many 10s and they gave a 10 Metaphor Refantazio.

Definitely getting day one. Demo was fantastic and the game itself is supposedly just as long as Persona 5 so well worth getting at full price. Whenever it does get a golden royale edition it'll probably be on Game Pass anyway. (Reminder for people playing on PC or Xbox: it's Play Anywhere so not only is there cross-save, you only have to pay once for both platforms. And no Denuvo faggotry on the MS Store version either.)

I am sorry… that UI… barf
That is heresy. Masayoshi Sutou is the god-king of UI design.

Whoa, damn, is that an RPG that takes place in a Japanese high school? I've been waiting a long time for one of those!

At least it doesn't take place in a Japanese high school.

For a fun thought experiment, pretend that the movie "Life" is a prequel to FFX. It actually fits perfectly.

Neither does Metaphor, so I have no idea why you keep repeating this nonsense.

The cover art looks like it takes place in a Japanese high school.

Does it at least star a Japanese high school student?

That one is Clair Obscura which I think is going to be in 2025. Looking forward to that one a lot, mainly because it actually looks like something new. It's got its own unique look which doesn't happen often in this genre.

What's with all these Japanese high school games anyways, am I rite??

Looks cool battling, but they lost me on the rest. Not a persona fan so makes sense. Still good to see a JRPG received so well.

i only played an hour of metaphor but unless it changes wildly later on, i think it seems it mostly involve a young male soldier doing spy shit in a foreign kingdom under disguise as army recruit.

the best thing I liked about it is the main character is actually voiced and has lots of dialogue. i like persona/smt/etc but i really, really don't like the silent protag type games usually unless its a kill-everyone type game.

Metaphor game takes place in a fantasy world. You are a soilder and not a highschool student in the game.

That's not really it at all. The main plot is about is an election of sorts. MC is going around gaining the 'will of the people' to become the next king. There's more to it than that, but even just finishing the prologue makes it clear what you're going to be doing for most of the game.
