They're filming the Pacific Rim sequel right now, in my local area. Streets of Brisbane made up to look like downtown Tokyo.

Also quite a bit of King Kong was shot here too.

Weaker Aussie dollar has brought a ton of Hollywood film making back. It was quiet for something like a decade.

As you'd expect we got a few examples of state level politicians patting themselves on the back and claiming that the increased Hollywood interest is because of their hard work promoting the local film industry. No . . .It only comes down to the dollar exchange rate.

The Tokyo scenes were in Toronto the last time around. Bummed they aren't filming it here again, but that might've had to do with Del Toro directing the last one; he's got a house in Toronto

Looks good. I feel like a yoyo in the Kong timeline though. Every movie acts as if the previous dozen doesn't exist and is in a different decade.

Seems like Kong is really blowing its load with all these giant monsters in the first film of the reboot. Another franchise without the patience to build up, but maybe it doesn't matter as much as it does for DC.

Unless I am mistaken, they are trying to set the stage for King Kong v Godzilla in 2020/2021.

Yep. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is 2019. Godzilla vs Kong is 2020. And really it looks like the only giant monsters in this are Kong and the "Skullcrawler" the other things are just random island trash, similar to all the stuff seen in the Peter Jackson version.

Homages to the Peter Jackson version with the Kong vs multiple Skullcrawler fight (Kong vs 3 V. Rexes) and to Pacific Rim with the tree bat (Boat bat). Most amusing.

Saw the film yesterday at an advance screening and John C Reiley gets nearly all the best lines.

Even this version of Kong is still not nearly the size needed to battle Godzilla. I don't see how they could do that movie based upon this sizing.... Godzilla is like skyscraper sized in both Japanese and American recent film versions. Kong is like, maybe 100-200ft tall?

Also looked like he was battling a giant squid/octopus at one point in the trailer, so there will be that too, hopefully.

One thing that always pisses me off though in movies like this is when they have attack helicopters and then they insist on flying towards the target. Motherfucker, you're a helicopter, stay far away and blast him, that's what you DO.

For general audiences, 8 out of 10. For Godzilla movie nerds this is a near perfect film. Post credit stuff is boner inducing.

Pretty much what he said.

I had an issue with SLJ being way too cliche, but I also expected it pretty much from the beginning so it wasn't a surprise. Loved pretty much the entire rest of the movie though. Action was fucking incredible, and Kong himself was awesome. IMAX 3D was superbly done as well. They seem to be getting better and better at that.

As an old school Godzilla fan I enjoyed this. It entertained my 6 and 9yos as well (thank God they are awesome at the movies).

All the bad reviews were basically looking for an Oscar worthy movie with monsters. It's getting fucking retarded.

This film was fun, the monsters were awesome, I was rooting for Kong and I liked the humans for once (hated them in Godzilla).

Really looking forward to the next chapter.

Oh and 3D wasn't a waste, added some very nice depth to the film.
