End of August probably won't be THAT bad unless you're not running around in shorts and a tasteful Hawaiian shirt. It tends to spike mid July/early August. Just drink more water with your free booze.
I consider any temperature over 75F to be unbearable soooo. (+ I've been out in Vegas this same timeframe multiple times for this convention

My house is set to 75...

Anyway T-minus 2.5 weeks. Hype. Something about Vegas... though it will be my first time staying 3.5 days/3 nights. Usually do 2.5/2. I'm not sure I'd keep occupied for more days, at least with going once every 3-6 months.

You could break up all the strip time with something likeRed Rock CanyonorMount Charlestonif you're into outdoorsey stuff. Was going to suggest looking into theNevada Test Site tour, but all booked up for the rest of the year apparently.

There is theAtomic Testing Museumthough

Well another Vegas trip done. Lost about $100, spent $200, used $100 in credit and won $600 overall, so up about $300 thanks to the credits.

I'm not a big gambler but I think I've finally found the tricks with the slots, it seems like they tend to actually pay out fairly well on average over time but they absolutely punish the shit out of people who eject too soon. I have to guess the non progressive machines recoup on average 85%+. If you leave right after big hits you end up netting.

I won about $500 on one penny slot machine. No doubt I was "lucky" but even still I had a much better experience sticking it out with a good machine this time vs. dumping a few bucks here and there.

I have no idea how people can have fun on the slots.

I was in Vegas last weekend and went to Hash House. Those are impressive plates.

Or visit in October and head out to Goodsprings with me for the annual pre game BBQ, sasparillas, and bourbon shots before the debauchery of Fremont Halloween.

Well if we ever got the rerolled group together on Ghostbusters slots you'd see!

Nothing beats the table games I agree but there are a few fun slots.

I never liked slots. The first time I went to Vegas I was 18 and I went with my parents. My dad spent the better part of a month teaching me to play blackjack and poker and a couple other table games. He drilled into my head over and over that slots are for suckers. Pure and simple. Ignore the lights and whistles, they're designed to trick the simple minded. Well, we got to vegas and we were all surprised that you had to be 21 to gamble. So my dad let me pick a slot machine and he put in a roll of quarters on my behalf while I touched the machine (something they bitched at me for later). We wound up with like $80 in the tray. After that, he spent the rest of the fucking trip playing slots. I don't think he made it to a blackjack table even once. He blew through a weeks worth of gambling budget in like 3 days. Then one morning he was waiting for us to come down for breakfast and put his last few nickles into a slot machine and he hit a $600 pot. After that he figured his problem was that he wasn't betting enough, so he started playing dollar slots.

The funniest part was that by the end of the trip, I couldn't even walk slow through the casino without a security escort. They had to let me walk through because of where the elevators were, but damned if they had to let me look around. I still don't understand why 18 isn't old enough to gamble. Of course, I don't understand why 18 shouldn't be old enough to drink either.

I walked too slow and was looking around. First time I saw security was when I'd stopped and was watching my mom play blackjack. They asked for my ID, I said I'm not gambling, they said well you can't watch the gambling either then. When they escorted me across the floor, they'd actually walk between me and where the games were so I couldn't see them at all.

One time I came down in the elevator and had to wait on my parents (I think this was the day my dad hit the $600) so I was leaning on the corner between the elevator area and the gaming area. Security showed up, I told them I was waiting on my parents, and they were like, well you have to be completely inside the elevator area where there's really no place to lean. I tried to move a stool that wasn't being used from in front of a slot machine to the elevator area and the guy almost had an stroke. I wasn't feeling well that day.

This was all at Circus Circus, which you'd think was kid friendly, right? But it was in 1992 or 1993 when Vegas was just swinging back towards being family friendly.

They probably thought you were helping your parents count cards or something.

Who knows? At the time I don't think I'd ever even heard of counting cards. I suspect the gaming commission just had some fucked up rules that didn't know how to treat people under 21 in such a way that they'd be welcome in vegas and still protected from the evils of gamblin. I'm pretty sure that even today you can't stand and watch a game if you're under 21. I believe most casinos are now designed that you don't have to walk across the gaming floor to get from the entrance to the elevators anymore.

The midway upstairs stayed more or less empty no matter what time I went up to look at it. I spent most of that week in vegas in a gym. Used part of my gambling budget to buy a 1 week membership and the rest to play arcade games. It was the first time I'd ever worked out in a co-ed gym. As you can imagine, my eyes got such a workout they were fucking jacked by the time I left. I don't know what the machine is called, but the one where chicks sit down and work on their inner thighs gave me so much wood. It was right in front of a mirror. I still can't watch someone use one of those things without feeling like a perv.

Definitely doing this when I go in December. Gonna try to get the wife to wear short skirt and tee up some shots while there.
