Hmm, just looked at the patchlog cause wasn't sure what you were talking about. I guess his Q makes ganks slightly harder early on but late game it's actually faster than before. Voli is just one of those fotm champs that sometimes gets super popular than dies out randomly, I don't think he's ever been hit that hard other than itemization. I think the Warmog change made him picked less often actually.
It just makes it A LOT harder to snowball than before. Pre-nerf you would max his bite first which acted as your early game source of damage as you built tanky, but now you are forced to max Q first otherwise you can't close distance for crap and you basically become kite meat. He's still a good champ but not sure of his high ELO viability (maybe someone can comment-- I think he's only really viable Jungle) due to just how easy it is to keep your distance from him, particularly early game.

It doesn't look at the Tiers when figuring out the numbers. It looks at your group's Rating. Although individual player MMR's are now hidden, every rated group is assigned a Rating which is assumed to be the average MMR of all 5 players on the team.
I don't believe that Plat in S3 is the same as Plat in S2.

Why does it matter though when we're talking about MMR, not Tiers/Divisions. The website doesn't look at what tier/division you are in when calculating your MMR, it looks at the raw numbers. It will confirm which tier/div you are in and suggest if you are too high or low for whatever division you are in but that doesnt really mean much imo.

In season one and in season two, when Elo was used, lines were drawn at different points to create tiers. Gold was 1500. Platinum was 1700. These sites that calculate MMR are making the assumption that those divisions within the system are the same in S3 and use them for reference points. I do not believe that to be the case. What I think is that in S3 the tiers were all softened substantially to allow more people to have more opportunities to progress.

Apparently you dont read my posts. This website is not assuming these numbers at all. It is looking at your groups RATING which is provided by RIOT. It isnt looking at divisions.

everytime you join a ranked team your group is given a rating which is the average of your team's MMRs. I've already provided you websites that will display this rating, try it out sometime once you start a ranked game.

Ill just leave this here:
I made Instant MMR Finder : leagueoflegends

Since the site doesn't have an FAQ here is all the information I gathered:
  • The tool doesn't find your actual hidden MMR, it approximates it based on your recent match history. Thus, if you have hundreds of ranked solo queue games under your belt, it doesn't matter if they don't show up in your recent match history. It seems like it needs 5-10 of your recent games to be Solo Queue for this to work appropriately.
  • The MMR is going to be based on the averages of your team and the enemy team, individual MMR isn't available in any capacity currently through the metadata that we have access to. This means if you are duo queuing the MMR shown will represent an approximate average of the MMR of you and your partner combined (if you play with them in all your math history games).
  • It's going to be a bit more accurate than indicators such as LolKing Score, but is neither exact nor official.

TL;DR: It's a pretty cool tool but doesn't really tell you anything you don't already know. Props on OP for making this.
Also:
http://quickfind.kassad.in/ now showing team hidden mmr/elo : leagueoflegends

How is the elo/mmr calculated? How are we sure this is the "real" mmr and not something like LKS?
The game calculates a "goodness" score for each game played to decide which games should show up as a featured spectator game in-client, which is exposed publicly. Because this score is based on how good the players in game are, it's possible to roughly determine the average Elo of the players in a ranked or normal game. As this value is presumably calculated from the actual MMR, it's totally different from LKS.
Anecdotally, it seems quite accurate to me, just looking at changes in my normal Elo. I consistently lose/gain around 10 elo for losses or wins, and it's around where I'd expect it to be.

And now that you've read all that and now actually have an idea of what is going on I welcome you to my side of the argument.

What argument? You mean ignorance? You still think this site is assuming numbers based on Tiers/Divs? Hey, if you don't want to use the site that's fine, I don't really care. If you don't believe the group rating is equivalent to average team MMR than that's fine, that's the only gray area. I believe it is the average so I believe this site gives a reasonable estimation of what your MMR is. One thing we know for sure is it isnt doing what Lolking does, I hope I at least proved that point. If you still believe otherwise than you're hopeless.

I'm happy about it, too, I do like the feeling of starting over. It doesn't sound like there will be placement matches at all unless you are 1st time ranked player. It's basically same as last year where you'll get placed based on MMR. The majority of players were placed in Silver I last year. I believe it was discovered that you needed around 1550 MMR to be placed in Gold.

Edit: Actually I guess there will be placements. (regarding preseason ranked games):

also
Is it possible to gain MMR towards what is calculated between now and the start of Season 4? According to LoLking and whatnot I was somewhere around 1390 last time I checked (before I even got in to S1 from S2) and would really like a way to get placed in Gold next season instead of bronze =D

So you believe that the number that is assumed to determine the likelihood of a team showing up in a spectate game is the average of each player's MMR.

What is it like living without skepticism? Does it hurt?
