? You talking about them taking ranked down when they do live fixes? I have only seen that once recently personally.

I was wondering because I almost never have issues with lag even when they say they have known issues and with the community always using that as an excuse I just never know any more.

What is the obsession with this? I don't get it. Do you get terrible ping or do you feel the lag will go away if they just add more servers and split the load?

I don't know if you are retarded or joking. You are literally adding thousands of miles (time) in between east coast and west coast players. 40-60 ms is a huge difference when other things are equal. Any game I can get a local server (non LOL) I have 50-75 ms ping. League is usually hovering at 105-110. That is super significant.

Not only that, but yes, adding another database would help stabilize things with load balancing. Not only this but someone would have to DDoS both servers instead of just the single cluster they have now. Pretty much win win win win win for the player base and a big fuck you from Riot games for not doing it.

Neither, I just don't think it is a big of a deal as everybody makes it out to be but I also don't have lag issues. Everything else but the ping makes sense to me as I would be willing to bet that extra little ping isn't causing you to lose a game 90% of the time. In fact, you will probably be worse until you get use to it and even then I doubt it matters. We aren't LCS players use to playing on lan so I highly doubt we could make use of it unless maybe you are diamond 1+.

yes because adding a tenth of a second delay on all of your inputs won't make you any worse at all. nope. no way no how. not only that but added extra ping spikes. nope.

i run ms on all of my rune outputs and 90% of my masteries. i can definitely feel the difference in time between my click and when my guy finally starts to turn. when i play teemo, i outrun highlander yi's. the ping difference is a huge difference. dodging skillshots especially against a nidalee or when you realllllllly can't get hit by a max fury rengar bolo is a game changer. if you don't think so we can't be playing the same game.

let me ask this, what is your average ping?

East coast servers would suck, and I say that as an east coaster. You don't want to fragment an already established playerbase, and all the good players would flock to West because the pros would be there (like EU now). I'd be on board with centralizing somewhere, but don't create another EU East/West.

That being said, the difference is pretty big between 100 ping and the <30 you get in Cali, even for a gold scrub like me. I'm out there for business a decent amount and the game feels very different at low latency.

Iirc they are just building a centralized server (Chicago) and have no plans to split anything.

Like I said I agree there are absolutely some situations where it may matter but I can't see it being a problem 90% of the time. I suppose that is the difference though as I have no noticeable delay between when I give a command and it happens or maybe I just don't notice and have gotten use to it so I compensate. I average around 90 ping.

I also agree with Skrala, unless they can setup some kind of situation where I could connect to east coast servers but NA remains one big player base I am sure a lot of people would be against it and "NA West" would still get hammered. That being said, I will agree, if we get a setup where we end up with under 30 ping or something super significant then yes I am all for it.

I suppose the way I read and interpreted the idea was that it is literally the ping that is holding you back from being a higher rank or better player. That is why I didn't see the big deal as that idea is ludicrous to me.

They've repeatedly said they'll never fragment the NA servers. It would be way too much pain for... more pain, essentially. The only people that want it are east coasters who think they're "too good" for slightly higher ping. Hopefully when the central servers pop up most of them will quit bitching.

Speaking of ping and connection issues; I've been constantly getting DC'd from PVP.net and because of it I can't play Teambuilder with my friends. What the fuck is up with this shit? I've encountered nothing but problems since I started playing again. It never used to be this bad.

Isn't the difference between 100ms and 50ms ping actually 5 hundredths of a second?
Yes and when you are talking about a twitch level based game, that can make a huge difference. On top of your natural delay, you have that extra time added. It adds up and makes a hue difference. Essentially, people playing at 30ms are playing with no delay and everyone else is playing with .05 second delay on all their actions. Try that out in any serious game or sport and that team is significantly handicapped.

"I suppose the way I read and interpreted the idea was that it is literally the ping that is holding you back from being a higher rank or better player. That is why I didn't see the big deal as that idea is ludicrous to me."

No the way I see it is a huge multibillion dollar corporation is making a large portion of their playerbase play handicapped. Will it make me a pro? No. Will it make me not rage all the fucking time when I barely get hit by shit (or don't get hit on my screen but get affected anyway due to MS differences) absolutely. As for the people saying it will fragment the playerbase, I don't give a shit. I don't have the time or money (or probably skill) to be a pro so the pros being on west coast is really just an added boon to me. I just want to play the game that I have paid a large amount of money without dealing with this shit. Other games do it. Figure it out. Riot has the cash.

I've heard Krepo say on stream several times that a high ping isn't the problem it's having a steady ping that you are used to playing under.

High ping, as in 200+, is a problem. But yeah being used to it is a big difference, that's why online tournaments are garbage when it's EU vs US and stuff like that where teams jump from their usual 30-40ms ping into 100-150(depending on location). Surprised LoL doesn't have east coast servers. Doesn't have to be its own region, could just default you to the lowest ping server when you do matchmaking.

This probably deserves its own thread. Duel of champions relevant. LoL relevant. ubisoft lol relevant. The jimquistion thread/vid railing on f2p strategies.

"My conclusion was that League of Legends gives too much away for free and it doesn't sell power. Riot could sell exclusive premium champions - they could, but there would be a Riot in the customer-base... If they let me change League of Legends I could double its revenue, and they could afford to lose 60 per cent of the customer-base and still do twice as much money."
Funniest thing I have heard in a while.

So this guy has pretty much just guaranteed any company that he works for will become suspect from the get go and a likely candidate for new "EA like pariah" in the gaming industry.

He should probably just go work for EA where they'd give him a corner office and probably build a statue of him in the atrium.

By the way, LoL's success has got to be directly related to it's business model, something he doesn't mention at all. It is easily one of the best business models out there.

Also you don't hear him talking about Valve's success in DOTAs business model. I'm sure the average gain there is much higher and they don't sell power at all. Even less then league which allows you to buy champs. This guy is a joke. He's a nerd who wasn't good enough to program so got a business degree and sucks at business too.
