I just started playing LoL and I'm trying to find some good resources since I've never really played MOBAs before. What are the go-to sites for builds and learning etc? I understand the basics and the metas of the game, I'm not retarded, but I'm trying to figure out how things currently rank. I'm jumping in feet first here.

I've been messing around with Kayle mostly and working around AP builds as they seem to be popular now. What is a good build order if anyone has any experience with the character.

I also just need to level to get my masteries up. Is there any decent way to level fast outside of just playing the game? Thirdly, are there any characters worth buying because they are really that awesome, or just play the damn game?

Solomid.com has decent builds; watching high level streams is my preferred way since you tend to get better insight as to WHY they do what they do. For example, why would the ADC rush bloodthirster instead of blade of the ruined king. What game dynamics influenced his choice... etc etc.

EXP boosts can rush you to level 30. I wouldn't use these; even without boosting, you'll be level 30 before you are ready to play ranked games. The learning curve for LOL is huge and I suggest taking it slow, keeping a positive attitude... remember that you're playing in newb games now and the game is actively matching you as best as it can against other newbs. If you artifiically rush to 30 you'll get placed against people with more experience which can be demoralizing.

Lots of champs are good to own but my advice to new players is to just play the weekly free cycle until you start to develop particular interests in a specific role. For example, I played everything in S2 but during pre-season S3 I switched to specialize in ADC.

Also, my brother (finally) just started playing and I'm going to be doing some workshops for him over the weekend. Having a more experienced player point out things and review mistakes is a huge boon as opposed to trial/error.

My ingame name/skype is Eidal12345 if you want to discuss anything in more detail.

Also, the game is played by 80% teenagers (I don't think that is a stretch) so keep that in mind when "interacting" with the community. Other than that, I've been playing for a few months now and have gotten markedly better - but would still consider myself pretty average. I played a bunch of ai games initially, but found I have made most of my progress against other players.

Looking at the demographics, 85% are between 16 and 30 and 60% either are enrolled or have completed some college. So the playerbase is more adult than most think. I know my friends and I who play this a lot are late 20's/early 30's. Nature of the internet and the fact that we're usually all drunk probably makes us seem like 14 year olds than 30 year old dudes with jobs and families.

I recommend probuilds.net for builds and build order. Even shows what order they chose skills. Obviously there's some variations but it can give you a good idea, especially when you're looking at a specific character like Kayle.

Draegan my best piece of advice is to watch some guides on zoning whether its dota2 or LoL. Hopefully one that stops the action and shows highlighted overlays of each character's area of influence and why those mechanics are important. From there just play tons of games against players in normals and get a feel for what each champ is capable of doing.

Solomid.net probably has the best set of quality guides in terms of champ builds and mechanics. A lot of these guides are either written or endorsed by pro players. Personally the best way to learn tactics is to watch livestreams from high end players or recorded matches on Youtube. The best way to quickly develop basics such as positioning, teamfighting, and 1vs1 dueling is by playing Dominion. Some people may disagree with me on that, but honestly Dominion is 24/7 skirmishes and teamfights that also incorporate brush, turrets, and movement freedom that you don't really get in ARAM and exists far less frequently in SR.

It's not really important until you get to ranked, but try to master at least one champ in each role.

For Kayle build her hybrid/AS. Rageblade, berserker greaves, and Nashor's tooth are pretty core. Iceborn Gauntlet late game and a guardian angel is trollarific in combination with her Ult.

If you want to level quick you can buy XP boosts in the store that last a fixed period of time, but personally I feel there is no need to rush to 30.

I really don't think there are any "must have" champs. They are all viable in normal play, though there are probably 30 or so at any given time that are considered "better" or slightly OP that are regularly chosen or banned in ranked. Just find someone you like playing and get good with him/her. Just avoid picking champs that are on the chopping block for nerfs (like K'hazix ) or are pending rework (like Sion) cause you risk getting good with them only to have them nerfed/reworked into something totally unfamiliar. That's what happened to me with the Karma "rework". If you are looking for easy champs to pick up in each role that are considered "good" I'd recommend the following: Ryze, Xin Zhao, Sona, Volibear, and Singed.

AP Kayle is also quite effective given you can gain AP more easily than AD. Furthermore an AP build has so much penetration that you don't need to worryabout the enemy team building magic resistance. Plus even if they do your don't really need to worry since most people don't build that much magic resistance these days and instead favour HP.

My build is usually:

Haunting Guise > Lichbane > Sorc Boots/Nashor's Tooth > Liandri's Torment > Warmog's OR Guardian Angel > Deathcap

Depending on how well I am doing some of the items will move around. For example if I am ahead and being targeted by their team I will get my defensive item earlier. I also have been playing with the positioning of Deathcap since I am not satisfied with how late I usually get it.

Either way, the early Lichbane on AP Kayle is absolutely devastating and lets you win most trades in lane. In this configuration she plays as a bursty caster that can follow up with high DPS. Plus with all the AP her heal is decent. I mostly play this Kayle build in mid but it works in top lane too.

Xalara has a good foundation for an AP Kayle build, but Lichbane is not really that good for teamfight damage output and you're better served finishing your Liandries Torment and Nashor's Tooth(especially new Nashor, whenever that gets patched out) before a lichbane. I agree 100% with the defensive item options and with a 5th or 6th item Lichbane. Kayle is one of my favorite characters to take mid now

Personally I think hybrid/AS Kayle is a better build particularly in late game. It just carries harder imho. Also I agree with Bain that rushing Lichbane is bad. Its effectiveness scales off of AP so it really isn't worth the investment until you already have a decent amount of AP.

Late game strength is great but in solo queue, I find that most games are decided relatively early. I do agree you can make arguments against an early Lichbane but at the very least I would grab a Sheen, the extra damage makes your trades that much more potent in the laning phase for only 1200 gold.

The new Nashor's Tooth is interesting but it is also becoming even more expensive. I used to build Nashor's Tooth earlier but then it's cost went up making other items, like Haunting Guise, more attractive earlier in the game. I'll have to see how good the new effect is in practice in order to figure out when to build Nashor's Tooth.

Pulling a 64.7% win rate over 44 ranked games (Gold 2 mostly, some Gold 3, in promotion series into G1 now) with trundle top. Lifesteal quints. armor yellow. MR Blues. AD reds. 9/21/0

If you're top, you can take golem camp and only lose about 15% hp if you go cloth armor / 5 pots and drink 1 pot. I almost always end up going ninja tabi as boots after that and eventually build a spirit of the ancient golem for tenacity or Lizard elder depending on how the game is going. After tabi grab a Doran's shield if the other guy wants to melee you a lot (Jayce pretty much). Then I go BOTRK. Spirit visage comes next, and randuins if the game stretches on.

You can lure people into a death trap easily, especially once you get the BOTRK/Cutlass built. BTROK proc + Ult + ignite + Q is a huge, huge burst. You're also extremely difficult to kill with this approach, so it's an extremely safe lane with high kill potential.

Highly recommend

Just wasting time with all that defense. Flask/ward/pot start, shop to vamp scepter + whatever you can afford (boots, maybe doran shield if losing, spirit stone if you're lucky), rush botrk, club faces off.

hehe well, not sure if serious, but I don't see many people complain about a top building defense ; ) BOTRK is my 3rd item at latest though, often second after tabi.

I guess I place an extremely high value on not dieing. I've found I can bully my opponent out of the lane easily with this approach and still be extremely hard to kill in a gank. As a metric, I like to check opponent cs vs mine when I hit 100 cs, and pretty consistently find I'm 20-30 ahead. That's another thing about trundle, extremely easy cs'ing. So, anyway, even without an early kill I can still build a big advantage through defense.

If you just ignore the 2 normal matches there (Stack brothers 4tl), I've died 9 times in the past 8 ranked games. That's a teammate you want, imho.

This outlines my recent meteoric rise and total collapse. The peak in early April (played Fizz almost exclusively) had me at 97 points in Gold 1. The next game matched me with a Riot Employee who went Ryze top and fed like a mother fucker. Of course, everyone else on my team totally sucked his dick after the match. Anyway, my losses before that were in the 8-10 point range and my wins were in the 2-5 point range. That loss cost me 20+ points, and it all fell apart. Went to 0 points in gold 3, committed to the trundle top, and now I'm a win from Gold 1 again....

Played a bunch of Kayla last night with an AP build and getting a bit used to the game play. Not sure if I'm enjoying the character as much, and I'm looking for more of a tanky support character that I can use to harass and bully players.

I was looking at Thresh. Any opinions? Lack of builds that I see says to me he may be banned?

edit: Yeah googled stuff and it looks like he's broken?
