Help me understand the new league system. You can't drop a division or tier, but if you win enough you can get a promotion series. Win 2/3 or 3/5 and you move up a division or tier, respectively. Here's the part I don't understand: If you can only move upwards, eventually won't everyone be platinum/diamond/challenger? I mean, anyone can get lucky enough to get carried a few games in a row and move up, right?

The system as I understand it will put way more people into plat/diamond/challenger than under the previous elo system. Am I wrong?

Thats actually the most effective way to play him and has been for a long time. Although the build order is usually abyssal > Sunfire > Zhonya's. The early MR shred on top of the aura is lethal. Although with the wristguard Zhonya before Sunfire could be the way to go. Something like early wrist guard > abyssals > giants belt > finish Zhonya > finish sunfire.
Lol, I had no idea. I just remember building sunfire on fiddle once when I first started playing and I got bm'ed by my team. But I think rushing zonya's would be better if your team is light on peels so you can survive team fight. So full build would be something like

Boots
Spirit of Spectral Wraith (any spellvamp is awesome on fid. also, free cdr)
Sunfire
Abyssal Scepter
Zhonya
Spirit Visage? Rylais?

It could. However with five(?) divisions that is a pretty broad talent spectrum within each tier. So I don't think the upward movement will be all that huge. An increase, sure but nothing major. What is nice about it though is that those bad luck streaks won't bury you below your skill level but at a point where you can't solo carry if your team is just that bad. Or so I hope.

No, you can and do move down. If you have amazing luck like me. Just a had a bot lane go yorick / shaco....yeah we lost that one

I started silver II and now am hanging on for dear life at Silver 5

Yes, but the current thought is that you can drop down divisions but not an entire league, so your case of going from Silver II to Silver 5 would happen. I'm not sure if you can drop leagues or not and would be interested to know for sure. Is anyone able to a source?

You can't drop from say silver to bronze, unless they changed it from what is was originally, but you can move up/down within a tier. Also, your tier (bronze/silver/gold/plat/diamond) doesn't actually restrict whom you play with, your hidden ELO still does that. So you can be playing with people in gold when you're silver if their rating gets bad enough or yours gets good enough.

I dunno.. I'm with most of the pros that resistances/armor is pretty inefficient right now with the penetration changes they did. I mean, items that add a fair amount of offense or utility along with it are fine (such as abyssal/zhonya's), but I'd prioritize ones that add health first (rylai's, haunting guise/liandry's, etc..) over things like sunfire/spirit visage. Health is just a more effective defensive stat then armor/MR right now. Guys like voyboy are ust throwing a warmog's on their katarina/akali type characters and calling it a day, some ADC players get a warmogs as their 5th/6th item for defense, it's taken the place of guardian angel in those circumstances. Warmogs, abyssal, zhonya's, and just high damage items and you'd be pretty hard to kill as fiddle I think. Long as you survive initial burst, you drain back the lost health anyway.

I would avoid Spirit of the Spectral Wraith unless you're jungling. It's a decent jungler item but in-lane there's more efficient buys. I would generally avoid Rylai's as well until maybe the 5th or 6th item, it didn't get any cheaper in Season 3 even with health overall getting much cheaper. Haunting Guise -> Abyssal early is an ok mix of defense and offense, along with sorc shoes. Sunfire is probably worth it if they have 3+ physical champs on their team.

Reign of gaming has some decent mathcrafting articles on season 3 stuff, including ahealth vs. armorone and ablack cleaver vs. youmuu'sone.

Oh man, started my Bo3 promotion on a terrible note. I'm second pick, and choose Zyra support. Last pick selects Lulu support with like 1 second left to choose. Team was really confused and didn't shift roles quick enough. I ended up having to mid against Xerath with full Support runes/masteries - and that's already a tough lane as it is if they're at all competent with Xerath. Obviously lost that matchup. Luckily I won my next 2.

Crazy thing is, I was in Gold 5 and I got promoted straight to Gold 3. I didn't know you could just skip entire tiers like that. Pretty neat though.

Started playing Elise; I'm a bit better at LOL in general - dodging skill abilities and running into bushes often to break off minions. I work with her mid and the other night had a pretty sweet stalemate with a Veigar. Neither of us were opening anything up for the other to hit us with anything. Eventually I trailed down to bot and ganked one of the guys and came back and was a bit beefier, such that when I caught Veigar alone he got demolished.

Anyone play Elise often? Is she better jungling or soloing? Her attack speed + heal component while in spider form seems to indicate she would trounce as a jungler, so i'm thinking of trying that next.

The only downside is that she seems very reliant on AP runes, and my pages are all wonky from working with Karthus and Udyr solo/jungle builds respectively. Having to make a third page is KILLING me.

Any tips?

Purchase a 7 set of rune pages. Worth it if you're going to play this game for a year+.

Elise is used mainly top nowadays to counter certain champs.

Elise is broken as shit top lane. You're a giant lane bully and can win almost any 1v1 duel top lane. You basically go Haunting Guise into Sorc Shoes into pure tank. You do tons of damage because both your Q's do % base health. You poke people down in lane in human form and if they ever get close you can Q into them with spiderform and either back out after that or keep chasing them. If they flash, rappel on them to finish them off.

There isn't a matchup she will lose against, because worst case she can still farm in human form safely.

I think you skip tiers if your hidden ELO is far enough above your "division" set that you skip one or two.

Hate to beg...anyone willing to help me out with a few ranked games? I feel I am fairly good, carry games pretty well and perform decently in a team setting. Lately I have been getting terrible games and I really REALLY need a person who can carry a game with me. I'm not looking to be carried far, I was originally on a 2nd of 3 game win for my silver ranking but fell to 60 points in D2 bronze. . .

The issue is that I will constantly get games where in champ select people will rage over a position then screw the team with a bad pick (last game had a guy pissed decided to go annie bot). That or people demand a position and then fail that position so hard they cause the entire game to be lost (mids that go 1/7, jungles that go 1/13, ect).

If anyone is willing to give me a hand PM me please, dear god I cannot take the trolls anymore!

EDIT:

Or if someone can recommend a champion that can, single handed, carry a bad team through a win. I'll grab it, play a few normal's til I'm decent with it and then carry carry carry.
