I must be retarded because I was certain Peggy won the account. It was quite late when I watched it though. Harry's blowup was good, and this episode as a whole was great. As for the commission check, I thought it was half of what he makes in a year?
It was a little confusing but yeah, a big firm swooped in and won the account (blah blah blah said they bought it in the room was stating that Heinz bought "blah blah blah's" pitch). That's why they were "joining the lonely hearts club" and were down. They weren't in the to celebrate, they were there to drink away their failure with Don. That was what the whole spiel about the smaller firms having to fight over crumbs was about.

That line peggy used "It's like I always say -- If you don't like what they're saying then you change the conversation" was from a presentation Don did in an earlier season. I'm pretty sure. Or maybe it was just something that he said to her personally -- but either way it was straight up stolen. That little bit was both snide and funny and, with Don listening at the door, explains a little bit more of his cripple kicking tantrum. Between the beans guy nuking the account and Peggy "borrowing" his mojo it was a day of betrayal for good ol' Don.

And Jesus Christ Joan has some big tits. I mean those things are ridiculous. They're so big that I find myself liking her in spite of them. Joan stole the show from Don this week.

By the way, the middle finger that whatshisface gave, was that directed at Peggy for taking advantage of his friendly conversation with her on the phone?

Yeah, I don't think it took much to put together what happened there. He probably views that as a pretty big betrayal. They seem to have grown close since last season.

Don has said something similar to the "change the conversation" line but I don't think he would begrudge Peggy using it in her presentation. I think he was just pissed that he got played and lost big on it, and that now his protege is the competition for real.

YEah that was Dons line, and they used it to show Peggy becoming the great pitch "man" that Don was/is.

Stan was definitely pissed. I was thinking when they were gossiping that they might develop a relationship this season as sort of a "torn between work and partner" type thing since they are competing. It seems like since Peggy left he is now Dons number 2.

His coat is amazing

Don used "change the conversation" when he was pitching Madison Square Garden. She not only stole the line, she stole the whole idea for the pitch, really (The way the other side was trying to frame Penn Station ect). And I'm pretty sure that infuriated Don...Not just because it was a word for word copy, but also because I'm pretty sure he's got an idea that in order for Peggy's agency to be on Heinz (Where they are small and don't have enormous resources), the leak had to come from his office. So not only is Peggy copying his ideas, she is using her old place of confidence to get ahead.

Honestly, this was Peggy's first big step into the world of being shitty to get ahead (Don, Roger and co have all existed in this world for a long time). You saw it last week when she was physically uncomfortable with the premise of it all, but she did it anyway to get ahead. All Peggy needs to do now is fuck her boss while her boyfriend is off working and she will officially be as big of an asshole as Don is. They are doing her transformation into an "Elder" of the corporate world really great. It feels very organic, not forced at all--it's a sign of great writing when a character starts to slip downward and they are still sympathetic (One reason I really like Don/Roger characters--they are sympathetic, even while being asses).

I hate so many characters on this show that it's somewhat funny that I love the show. It's totally about awful fucking people and makes no excuses about it.

Peggy enjoying the betrayal(the little smile at the bar) was a surprise to me.

Indeed. Most of the characters on this show are fairly awful human beings and it just makes for great entertainment.

what the fuck was the deal with her friend, the malt shop, and all that shit? They went to a ice cream place that puts phones on everyones tables so weird looking dudes can take you to another bar? Why didn't Joan just take her to a real bar, I felt I was missing something.

Mad Men made a 30 Rock reference this week with the 'Old Spanish' cocktail order.

And Stan is awesome.

Joan's sister wanted to go there because someone told her she could get laid. Joan got there and was like "WTF is this high school shit? Bitch let's go find the D" and then they did. Best story ever.

Probably and his exit line before the finger was something like oh I think I see a friend.

I didn't really take it as her enjoying the betrayal myself. I saw that smile as a kind of "what are you gonna do?" rather than "suck it bitch".
