It's funny because I checked the cast the other day looking for the name of a supporting actress from season one and it made me realize we see the daughter often, but not the son. Glad they managed to do something with him.

PS: Two months until Bobby Kennedy's death (one until May 68 events in France, but I am not sure they will fit that in as the character the closest to left/underground movements is no longer in the show).

You wanna know how much I give a shit about France in 1968? I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. I even googled it and I still have no idea why anyone would care.

One of the core theme of the show is the evolution of society, the transition from the '50s to modernity. Left wing radicalism, boosted by anti-war protests and by the almost revolution of May 68 in France, rippled through the '70s all around the world and is an important component of this evolution the show is about. It's unlikely they will push the timeline until the mid-70s, so what they can show is the context, the seeds, resulting in the birth of groups like The Weather Underground (formed late in 69). There were some characters that could easily be tied to the budding of these movements, like Don's painter lover or the guy who fought for civil liberties along his black friends, but currently the only strong candidate would be Abe, the journalist.

Yeah but the show is very American-centric. I doubt that the events of 1968 France would really resonate with them, especially given who these people are. Maybe Roger will have a funny line or two about the French but I highly doubt it is a major plot point.

Megan's parents are in Paris. The riots there are the largest in history--and Megan's dad is a communist (And it was a widespread worker movement). There is a huge link to France in the show and a set up for this particular riot to be important, actually. Who knows though if they will make it so.

Are you guys really going to have a debate about what is going to happen in the future of the show?

They live in Montreal. She is French Canadian. There is a difference. There is no huge link to France. You are making it up out of ignorance, while trying to make it seem like you are informed on the subject.

Next.

"Making it up out of ignorance to seem informed"!?!?! Or a simple mistake? I thought when Megan was on the phone with her mom, she said she was calling from Paris, that's all (I thought they moved there for the father due to promoting his book or something.)...I was probably mistaken.

Be a little less dramatic when you get the rare chance to be correct, bro.

Why u hate discussion Brutul? Yes, there will be discussions about the show in threads. No, it won't be a one line twitter like set of responses saying "Gud ep! Luv #madmen"...This thread not being dead for 5 days between episodes is fine. And this particular subject is interesting, because the show has a pretty strong critique of materialism and capitalism itself. And since France was ground zero for the "worker" movement which spread throughout the world--it's a pretty big facet of what caused a lot of changes in America over the next decade.

Dont be mad because you are wrong. Its ok. We can all move on from here. No one cares about France and never will.

Speaking of Bobby Draper, this is number 3 right? The First kid from season 1 was dropped, the 2nd is on Once upon a Time, and this is the 3rd one who used to be on Desperate Housewives so my wife tells me.

Did I miss any of them?

Ah man, how can you possibly say that was a boring episode.

That was the best episode of the season so far. Peggy getting accidentally proposed to was hilarious in a light funny way. And you had Harry genuinely not giving a shit one way or the other which was equally hilarious in a dark funny way.

And Don's expression at the end scene of Planet of the Apes... that was worth the entire episode itself. ITE we learned that Don invented the "lulwut" meme.

I didn't see for sure but Megan won the award, yes?

Also is Peggy's boss in love with her?

Megan did win whatever award it was.

Also, a better version of Don and Bobby going to the movies.

I did completely forget about Megan's dad. I think they are Canadian, but still, I think that we could expect something out of him about France in 68.

I just don't see the point of having an argument when neither of you have any way of knowing if you are right.

Little did we know the entire reason this show was made was to reference some random event in France in 1968. The $250,000 spent to play 20 seconds of a Beatles song is really put in perspective once I learned that today.

I was singing the Simpsons Dr. Zeias song during the episode and my gf had no idea wtf I was doing. I can't watch Planet of the apes without thinking about that skit.

Do you suffer from some form of autism? Not all discussions are about being right. What's the problem with speculating what will come next in the show and debating about what could or should be in it and how? It's a fun intellectual exercise, it's a testament to the thematic wealth of the show and it's a springboard for potentially interesting digressions... you know... the kind of things one does on a message board? Engage in discussions?

Anyway... good call on Megan's father: he mixes all the necessary ingredients to be interested in May 68, but while he has been mentioned a couple times, he only has been in the one episode.
