I think there is a chance this will surpass Avengers at the box office.

Marvel has a stronger IMO overall IP within their universe but Superman is fucking huge and a well done Superman movie could be massive, they're promoting the shit out of it here in the UK. I am already considering trying to get a ticket on opening day,it opens on Friday here, usually movies get a Thursday preview but this doesn't seem to be the case with this movie, I want to see it so much I'll go with my wife the following week again.
you just went full retard son

Snippets from the present 3 rotten reviews:

While certainly the most dazzling Superman movie to hit the big screen, the 143-minute "Man of Steel" is also one of the longest, and it only justifies that heft because it leaves room to keep the effects coming.
---
And once they come back down to Earth, perhaps warmer memories of the Supermen no longer considered viable will come rushing back. In "Man of Steel," Superman never suffers from exposure to fragments of Kryptonite.
----
A lot has been abandoned in this new version. Gone is the wide-eyed hayseed of all previous Superman iterations. Since the film also takes place early in Superman's career, he also no longer has a working relationship with Lois Lane. He doesn't really have an established secret identity yet, and he hasn't yet moved to Metropolis. Superman is not yet confident or resolute in his devotion to truth, justice, and the American way. The bright, little boy fascination with the character is gone. The exciting flying sequences. The sunlight. The innocence of the world in which Superman lives. Even the word "Superman" is used sparingly. Scenes of Superman rescuing falling helicopters, racing airplanes, putting out chemical fires, ripping apart steel doors, bending bars, and getting small cats down out of trees. In Zack Snyder's new version of things, all of these things must seem stale and old hat.
----
An unapologetically supersized reboot of the Superman franchise, Man Of Steel doesn't lack for spectacle, but after a while its emphasis on grand gestures and unwavering gravitas stops feeling heroic and begins to seem like overkill. Director Zack Snyder has fashioned a brawny, science-fiction-heavy action movie that's far removed from the charming, understated tone of the original Christopher Reeve films of 30 years ago
----
Encouraged by the fact that Superman, Zod, and his henchmen are all practically immune to pain while on Earth, Snyder has crafted fight scenes that include endless carnage and destruction, as these Kryptonians lay waste to everything around them. But the set pieces aren't just confined to these characters: Lois Lane and other humans also get involved. (This is probably the first Superman movie where Lois spends more time shooting guns, flying in military planes and running from disaster than doing reporting or anything else.)
Poor us, a movie with Superman not being stale, not using what every movie has used before, with Superman actually fighting with an effects budget behind him, I'm sure we'll all just hate this...

Thing is, I like character development. I like it as much as I like my fight scenes. The Avengers is widely considered to be one of the best Super Hero movies to ever be released and thus becomes the movie for which other Super Hero movies have to measure up to. As much as I want this movie to be awesome, I know that it will not be as good as the Avengers. I doubt this movie will be as good as Batman, but it might be. The previews have shown plenty of whiz bang boom, which is fine. Previews are supposed to be what makes a person want to go see the movie. I just hope there is also a good dialogue between the characters that makes me feel the movie for more than a good firework show. Regretfully a lot of the reviews appear to suggest otherwise. I will still go see the movie of course just because I love a good popcorn flick. I cannot though say that I go into this movie with the same expectations as I went into watching "The Avengers" with, Only because I knew Joss Whedon was directing and thus knew that the movie would have a lot of humor and great dialogue to back up the explosions.

It comes back to the principle problem with writing for a character like Superman. Its hard to have dramatic tension when your principle protagonist is basically invincible/invulnerable. Its something that the storytelling in Superman has struggled with for years and why they introduced the idea of kryptonite in the first place. For all its flaws, I liked S:Returns for the noir and the character arcs and hope this movie is more than an origin story and an hour of two invincible dudes zoolander slapping each other. Guess I will find out this weekend.

I figured this was true when it was made to sound that Krypton wasn't destroyed, whch I'm fine with. The whole reason Kryptonite exists is because of awful writers making Superman OP and having to create something...which is also pretty lame, in order to bring him down.

It's why the Doomsday stuff is so awesome because they don't need that, they had someone who was just as powerful if not more so fighting him.

And we hardly ever see him fight, I'm tired of that crap. I want to see Supes fight. We know his orgins and from what I've heard there are orgin stories in the movie, it jsut doesn't take up 2/3 of it like other movies with a rush to the end.

I hope it'll be good, those who I know who've seen it, loved it. I look forward to it.

Also a lot of reviews I've read are kinda retarded. They complain that this isn't like the traditional superman, no kryptonite, he fights to much...blah blah blah. GOOD I say, they said they wanted to modernize Superman for todays viewers as that's one reason it's failedso many tyimes and I'm of the like mind. I'm glad they took a new direction and I hope it pays off for them and that it's good enough to get a sequal.

This sounds better and better. Always found Kryptonite to be lame as fuck. Clark Kent as a disguise was stupid. I am fucking superman I don't have to blend in or hide. Fuck that.

I cant believe that the movie is 2 1/2 hours and its getting bashed for having to much action.... Movie sounds amazing. And yeah I'm extremely glad that this is going in a whole new directioin not seen on film, so many flaws with the typical superman story and this looks like a refreshing take

kryptonite is for bad writers, not a bad character.

no one bats an eye at thor or hulk being completely invulnerable or strong. Thor is almost pound for pound exactly the same as Superman in power.
granted, they did de-power HIM in his first movie too...

Why should every super-man movie have to bring in his greatest physical weakness when his internal struggles as well as his place in a society that both reveres and hates him (usually for not doing what we ourselves are unwilling to do), seem to handicap him much more, and are of much more interest to me at least. I'm psyched to see what's been done.

Seriously. Kryptonite as a plot element sucks 100% of the time because superman is either a god or a gimp. It is retarded, fighting people of a similar power level like zod is great because there are actual stakes not a retarded gimmick.

I just read every "rotten" review on Tomatoes and all of they are pissed the "traditional hay seed Clark Kent" is gone and that they turned it into an action movie.

Reviews like "The ambition to make a grittier kind of Superman pic is certainly admirable, but much of what Snyder and Goyer set out to fix wasn't really broken in the first place."

and

"strips away a lot of what was familiar with the story in the hopes, I assume, of releasing Superman from some of the traditional corn-fed, aw-shucks, gee-whiz Boy Scout elements that are crucial to the character."

These people are salty over the superman they know being redone. IT's been well known for a long time now that this was the case. Shit's annoying and boarderline jimmy rustling.

It does kind of worry me though that RT has them at 71% so far with 41 reviews. Wasn't avengers like 95% at this point?

All the "complaints" that you have brought up sound like pro's to me though.
