Devoid of humor? Like The Dark Knight you mean?
You used the funniest Batman as an example? How about like Dark Knight Rises instead. Joker alone added plenty of comic relief, the fact that it fit the tone of the movie doesn't somehow make it NOT humor.

Thank fuck Nolan "didn't bow to the typical and insist on breaking up the tension with comic relief". If anything Dark Knight is a great example of using some humor to keep it from becoming a slog. It doesn't have to be slapsticky Iron Man shit to be humor.

kryptonite is for bad writers, not a bad character.

no one bats an eye at thor or hulk being completely invulnerable or strong. Thor is almost pound for pound exactly the same as Superman in power.
granted, they did de-power HIM in his first movie too...
just to be a nerd: no. they are not even close. and i'm a thor fan and never read superman once in my life

superman is absolutely out of scale overpowered. We are talking about millions of times stronger. litterally

thor, at his best, can lift between 100 and 150 tons. i've seen a scan from a superman comic where he is testing his strenght is some kind of laboratory and he was holding without much efford quintillion tons (1.000.000.000.000.000.000 tons)

he litterally can move planets

EDIT - found the scan

Bit out of context. That scan is from All-Star Superman in which Lex Luther tricks him into essentially flying into the sun. Thus his power is ultra-boosted along with him being poisoned to death. Not even remotely representative of his normal strength.

That is all-star superman. Superman overdosed on sunlight and powers multiplied by 1000. Comparable to Odinforce Thor, who can kill galatucas/celestials etc.
Regular superman is more around 1000tons. unless the story calls for it, then its moving continents and the like. which is still crazy. thor does the same shit though. if Thor needs to be able to hold the helicarrier, he can. fight silver surfer, he can.

Half the justice league can beat superman in a straight up fight. not even resorting to "cheating", by sneak attcks.
Wonderwoman. about 75% as strong and fast as him. but has magic weapons, and is trained to fight. Has beaten the living shit out of Ares, Artemis, Orian, Darkseid, superman, has NEVER lost to Batman. has zero reservations about killing when needed.
Flash is completely broken.
Lanterns. Green lanterns can do anything. raise the dead. make stars go supernova, turn back the clock on stars. make unbreakable forcefields. allow people to breath in space. There are no restrictions on what the rings can do.
Manhunter. telepathy/mind control, 75% as fast as superman. same str. can shapeshift, can phase.
zatanna. magic.
black canary. sonics. granted. this does require her to face him head to head, and him to not have a range advantage. he is faster then sound if he knows its coming.
Captain marvel/shazam. magic superman.

and that is just a few of the good guys.
Its just one of supermans "powers" is, "there is always a way". Superman will always prevail no matter the odds.

A mistake I'm seeimg here is the refusal to not give us a movie loosely based on a book. Give us All-star. a phenomenally powerful superman doing everything he can to help the world while he falls apart at the seams, and the Lex Luthor revelation.
Give us Kingdom come. This is a little bit "birthright" admittedly.. but not quite. it missed the mark. or even "whats so funny about truth, justice, and the american way"

You guys mentioned how Kryptonite was a form of bad writing. That picture above is just as bad. I do not care if a person was born on a planet that had a gravitational pull of a neutron star. He would not be that strong. The Hulk is just as strong over enough time. I do not consider Kryptonite to be bad writing. It is like saying a person who uses a gun to rob a bank makes for bad writing because of the gun.

It appears they went with the "God" version of Superman in this film and sent another God against him. It will be fun to watch to see how they handle collateral damage. Millions of Humans "Should" be dying in this movie.

If that picture represented normal Superman I would agree it is bad writing. It doesn't though. That was a specific story line called All-Star Superman. Which I actually really enjoyed. His power was practically limitless there, but he was dying because of it.

Edit: Kryptonite is bad writing because it has one purpose. To weaken Superman so that lesser beings can get the advantage over him. It helps Lex Luthor not be a total joke of a villain compared to Superman. Superman can get his ass kicked by a lot of different people like Cal pointed out. It doesn't take Kryptonite to do it, just beings of equal, or greater power. They want Superman to have human antagonists though so they have to find ways to keep bringing him down to our level. Thus Kryptonite and its different colors which all do different, but equally stupid things.

unless i missed some kind of cheesy event in the 2 years i have not followed Thor, the odinforce have never been remotely close to cosmic beings like a full power galactus or a celestial

Odin and other "cheaf gods" are the most powerful non-cosmic characters by far (Zeus almost killed Hulk with a single punch, Odin wiped the floor with Thanos and single shot Annihilus), but there is a huge gap between them and cosmic abstracts

What I heard is that the explosion was accidentally delayed and Ledger went along with it like you said. From what I hear he ad libbed most of the best parts.

Oh, and this is a superman thread, so Superman wins against all comers.

So I read a bunch of the reviews. It seems like a lot of the reviewers don't like the darker themed comic book movies. One even said that Nolan ruined batman. I will have to see for myself, but a lot of the complaints revolve around stuff that I didn't like from the original movies.

If Nolan ruined Batman, I would love for him to ruin just about anything else he touches.

I never pay attention to media critics. I have a hard time caring about the opinion of someone who was paid to give it. I think the mindset is completely wrong when you approach film and video games as a job. You end up with people who have no real interest in the source material writing up reviews that are just swimming in their own ignorance. Or even worse you get "critics" with no integrity whatsoever that will say whatever the highest bidder wants them to say.

That is why I come here for opinions. People here actually WANT to see this type of movie. People here play video games longer then 15 minutes before writing a essay on what they think. We still get trolls, and hipster douche bags, but for the most part I can take the opinions here seriously. If the overall consensus is that the movie sucks then chances are pretty good that it sucks. Obviously there are exceptions to that since everyone has different tastes, but for the most part the FoH community has served me well for reviewing stuff.

The most obnoxious shit I have seen surrounding Man of Steel is the people who seem put off by the movie not channeling the 1980's Christopher Reeve films. I am a HUGE fan of Reeve's Superman, but god damn it let him rest in peace already. Christopher Reeve did not make Superman. Superman made Christopher Reeve. The character was around long before him, and will be around long after we are all dead and gone. I don't want to see the character stuck in the fucking 80s for the rest of my life.
