Green Peppers stuffed with canned salmon, baked in the oven with tomato sauce on top. fucking yuck times infinity.

Stuffed peppers can be good. They're a bit tricky if you use raw meat because the cook time required for the mean will likely obliterate the peppers.

But that...that's just disgusting. There's very few good used for canned fish and cooking it some more is not one of them.

Ya'll know there is a cooking thread, right?
But not a *family cooking* thread :smart:

As we grew up my parents generally included us in the meal planning and let us choose one thing we didn't have to eat. Not so much a full on dish, more like an ingredient or side. As we got older we were responsible for preparing a meal for the family once a week.

I just want to make sure my kid(s) have a healthy relationship with food. Variety, nutrition, quantity.

May God have mercy on tyens soul

Not sure what makes you say this. Trex is a stay at home mom who doesn't cook because "I don't want to". Tyen seems like a real lucky guy to me.

Because if you do that your kid grows up scared to try new food because they "might not like it". They grow up into Trex or Noodle.

Its a handicap. I want my kids to be able to walk into a dinner party and eat whats served and enjoy it. To walk into a restaurant and order anything off the menu and like it. Like a normal person. Not to be scared of eating things that might have a new flavor they havent encountered before.

I worked with a guy for many years who literally every day ate chicken nuggets and peanut M&Ms. Every day, no exceptions. We all went out to a work dinner once at a decent restaurant that didnt serve chicken nuggets. This dude had a seriously hard time finding something to even order and I'm pretty sure he didnt actually eat it once it arrived.

My kids wont have that affliction, I am determined.

One of my college roommates ate nothing but chicken nuggets, chicken patties, or french fries. That was it.

My BF was ruined on steaks and pork chops due to his mom over cooking them to annihilation. He also doesn't like any kind of seafood and I'm not exactly a good cook variety wise so it's tough for me to keep things fresh. I'm pretty much limited to chicken (which he's okay with but doesn't want it too often), pasta or ground beef dishes. He never bitches about anything I make but I always feel kind of crappy making the same shit over again for the most part. Ive been using Sundays to try and cook up something new like root beer pulled pork, chili variants (did one with apple chicken sausage this Sunday which turned out great, though I've been told it's more of a goulash than a chili. Oh well) or shepherds pie variants. I still can't manage to make decent French toast though. Shit never comes out right.

French toast is easy. Use a thick cut bread, ideally challah but anything >1/2" will work. Soak the bread well in the egg/milk mixture before cooking. Cook submerged in at least 1/2" of butter, clarified is best but regular is fine too, just have to watch the heat.

I keep on being told about the heat but there's not much I can do with it with the shitstain coil stove I have. These things are such fucking garbage and I can't wait to live in a place with a real one.

When I was looking for an apartment most recently I skipped over so many dope looking places because they didn't have gas stoves. Necessity.

I would like a gas range as well but let's be honest here. Your standard, run of the mill gas range in most apartments is not gonna be any better than an electric range. You gotta spend some bucks on a nice gas range with serious BTUs

I was looking at some Viking ranges that were more expensive than my entire kitchen remodel. :(

Alton Brown's recipe for french toast is the best I've had. It's a bit intensive on the amount of dishes it creates, but it's worth once in a while. Thick bread, like a challah, that's been at least partially stalled is important. But also, plan on baking after frying. If you go the thick cut route(you should), there's no way you can cook the whole thing through without burning the outside(while frying).

My experience has been that even a POS gas range offers far better temperature control than any electric coil stove. Just the ability to see the flame and adjust accordingly makes a huge difference IMO.

That said I currently have an electric stove which blows and makes everything more complicated than it needs to be.

Alton is awesome but every now and then he loses his mind. (His wings method is terrible)

Cooking French toast all the way through is like cooking a steak all the way through. You want that custardy middle, not dry bread in the middle.

Almost as bad as shitty heat is the warping on the coils. None of my pans can sit flat on them and one is bad enough I have to constantly adjust whatever pan is on it because it keeps sliding off the coil.

Did you really think I meant baking the bread to the same temperature as the outside? I'm guessing you don't cut your bread as thick as mine if you can get away without baking it. There's just no way to set the custard once you start approaching 1 inch slices.

Yeah I misunderstood you. I still dont bake though and dont have a problem with the middle being underdone. Maybe we're handling the frying parts differently? Mine is essentially deep fried in >1/2" of butter.

Damn, now I want french toast.

When I turn down my gas stove it gets cooler immediately. By default that makes it better than any electric range.

I mean... so does my electric range when I turn it down. Those coils are pretty good thermal conductors
