So does anyone have a sleepnumber bed or what

We have a memory foam bed from... I believe it is Sealy. iComfort I believe. If I had the cash, I would have sprung for a Tempur Pedic. I personally love them, but my sister has a sleep number and she let my wife and I lay on it one time when we were staying there (when we were ready to take the plunge on an expensive mattress). I dunno... I wasn't all that impressed personally. And the damn things are louder than I thought because they have to constantly fill up and whatnot. I also have some other relatives of my wife's that have them and hated them, so definitely be sure to test the thing out if at all possible. It definitely seems to be a YMMV kind of deal.

Tempur Pedic is by far the best of all the mattresses I've tried, and no the cheap Amazon copies can't compete, though the Sealy and other higher end copies are fine.

I never tried sleep number though. The whole concept of an adjustable bed makes me think of old people.

One essential pro tip to all memory foam bed owners though; make sure the base for the mattress is perfectly flat and rigid. I hated my mattress for the first year and had terrible back problems until I started to investigate why my 4K mattress was slowly killing my back, and found out that it was because of the flexible curved slats that came with my platform bed. Laid down a sheet of plywood under the mattress and it was like I had a totally different mattress.

Our foam one is hot and really cuts into my fuck torque.

Yeah I'm not sure. I like firm and she likes softer so i thought this was about the only thing we could do.

It is a cheaper one though like from sams club. Maybe that's our issue. I'll try the plywood too.

Tempur pedic prices were absurd here against everything else. We went with a Sealy that was something like $4k and it's been awesome since we bought it. Provides good bounce to fuck on.

We had a memory foam mattress and when we'd fuck it was just dead.

Around here the dealers will not let you leave the store without at least having a full knowledge that you absolutely must use their special bed frames for support. You can take the pretty wood of a traditional bed frame and "wrap" it around a memory foam frame, but that special frame absolutely should be what is holding up the actual mattress and box springs.

We were warned about this on memory foams in general, but ours is very fuckable. I just am amazed at how much it squeaks being that there are no springs ... not sure where the hell that is coming from at all.

Yeah as Frenzied said, the cheap ones really really suck. Need to spring for one from a name brand for sure. Like Sealy, Serta (I think they make one) for sure.

We need a new mattress but the nice ones seem so expensive and I don't know if my wife's menagerie of toys hidden under the mattress will mess it up.

Yeah, they always push the $400 "base" which is nothing more than a slab of OSB wrapped in cloth. This is meant to replace a traditional box-spring on a bed. But if you own a platform bed you can't really use either, as the mattress is meant to lie directly on the slats. American made platform beds come with rigid flat slats and that would be fine as long as they are not spaced apart more than an inch or two, but European made beds come with curved flexible slats, and that's what killed me and mad e the mattress so awful. Fucking Euros.

Tempurpedic has 60 months at 0% interest as well. I might go that route in a couple months.

I would hazard a guess and say you won't regret it. Just make sure you can stand to open the windows a bit for the first few days as they do smell pretty funky when you first buy them. (since you said December)

I know it's a tough expense to wrap your mind around, particularly when you can pick up a regular mattress for like $500, but imho spending 4K on a Tempur Pedic was one of the best decisions I ever made. You spend 30% of your life in bed, why cheap out and suffer? The reality is you don't realize how much you were suffering until you buy one-- my first night in my properly adjusted Tempur Pedic made me feel that I wasted 30 years of comfortable sleep. Oh, and my stepdad's Tempur Pedic is going on 12 years of service, so do the math in terms of value.

I fucking hate my Tempur Pedic. Especially banging on it. It may special suck in FL since it can get pretty hot and I have the double vented model. I slept on mine maybe 3 years until I just went back to a traditional mattress.

If they get too hot, fuck that shit. I need as cool a mattress as possible.

Its kind of funny because in the winter here in Ohio it would be really hard when you first get in it and it took maybe 15 minutes until it heated up enough for it to do its trademark contouring to your body. So you'd just be sleeping in basically a ditch until it heated up enough to actually do it's thing. So I'd always have to re-adjust (and generally move elsewhere in the bed because there is a giant dent where I was previously) and then fall asleep again. Then in the summer it would be like sleeping in an oven. And then trying to bang. Oh god. Doing anything cowgirl is like fucking in quicksand. Doing missionary has no bounce-back which makes that position weird too. Even doggie is a pain because your knees sink hella deep. When it was our main mattress we just started to bang in the upstairs spare bed since it was a traditional. But that made spontaneous doing it nearly impossible since we had to go upstairs. We were never both just hanging out in the spare bedroom for no reason.

Overall I must be that 1 out of 100 that would not recommend the mattress
