I went over to my aunt and uncle's house once when I was in high school and when I was about to knock on the door I looked in the window and realized that they were both watching TV naked in the living room. I was so traumatized I just left. Their kids were like 5 and 7 at the time. For reference, the girl was goth in high school and attempted suicide before eventually getting her shit together. The boy spent some time in juvie and is now strung out on oxy. They were also molested by my grandfather though, and their mother is a nutjob so it probably can't all be blamed on seeing their parents naked.

Guilt is a very powerful tool. The groundwork for her confession was laid years ago. And a lot of times it seems that people don't understand just how serious the crime is, like for reals -- which is why they commit it in the first place. So I'm sure there was a decision in there somewhere which weighed the value of having all that attention and then the vindication of a not guilty verdict versus the (relatively small) risk of a guilty verdict.
