It's a shame because people definitely notice how bad the house is. At a certain point I justthought - you know, I never entertain these people, I'm never here.. so she can deal with it. Her mother tells her it's disgusting all the time.

We only have one kid and it feels the same some times. I cannot count how many individual TV series she's watched on netflix/hulu/prime in the past year, but in the span of one episode you could clean... the entire kitchen (really the only room I care about).
Rough day with the kid? That's fine, I get it, but that fucker naps at least 2-3 hours in the day and you are up 3-4 hours after he goes to bed. "I was too busy with him" is BS at that point

Not judging anyone else, but this is how I fucking detested dating and love being married. I have a very, very low tolerance for other people's bullshit. Most people are morons, and that reveals itself about two minutes into your first conversation. I went on very few first dates, almost no second dates, and had a generally pitiful sex life.
My now-wife and I were friends and training partners at a martial arts school for two years before circumstances aligned and we got together. We both knew we'd get married by the second week of our relationship. She's tough, reasonable, smarter than I am, and has a better career than I do. We have compatible senses of humor and intellectual curiosity and similar views on finances, politics, and religion. We wouldn't have gotten past the first date without that, and now after 15 years I have really nothing to complain about. More often, I wonder why she puts up with me. Gift horse, mouth, etc.
tldr; Get the outcomes you want by being picky.

The few of us with these wife problems here on the forums are all in the same boat. The excuses are all bullshit, but we're all defeated and sick of fighting over it. Not sure what to do, because when the house does end up getting clean, and we both spend a couple hours cleaning the whole house, she'll say things like man, this is fantastic, I love it! but she won't ever maintain it.
Goddamn right. My wife and I are grooming our son so that he can build an autonomous vacuuming, dishwashing, laundry-folding household robot. Just so we can use it. Fuck cleaning.

Wife and I both work, so we both clean. Empty nest now, moved my son in to college this past Sunday. He’s doing well (helps that his sister is a senior there) and is actually embracing some leadership opportunities (have mercy on his soul...) House should start to shape up more with the walking disaster area (son) off at college.

I don't tolerate clutter in my house at all. Can't stand that shit. Grew up with too much of it. If it ever gets to the point of clutter I just throw shit away without telling her. When she asked where this or that has gone. I tell her you cluttered a bunch of shit up and I told you about it twice, which you ignored. So its not a problem anymore.
