How so other than alcohol being 7 calories per gram, carbs 4 and fats 9?
Alcohol cannot be stored by the body and only the liver can metabolize alcohol. Initially the body will convert alcohol into an energy conserving compound called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which basically is the round about way for your body to store alcohol calories.

However, once you get beyond 1-2 drinks per drinking "session" your liver will start metabolizing it via an energy-wasting method called microsomal ethanol oxidizing system, which is basically body heat (and basically wasted if your body doesn't need heating). Alcohol converted via the microsomal system in essence don't "count" in the same way your typical food calorie as they aren't stored in any fashion, just dissipated via body heat.

I'm going to guess that given:
-alcohol is only a portion of the calories of high-calorie beers
-you need to drink a certain minimum per hour to overload your liver
-and even then, probably not all of it is metabolized via this secondary method

That this probably doesn't go as far as you're implying to "free drinks!". But still, interesting concept I was unaware of, thanks.

This probably relates more to the "pound 4 vodka shots in 15 minutes" method than to the "sip 300 calorie craft beers for 6 hours" method.

Good point, forgot shots was part of the discussion. In that case, haha, fuck you liver! Gonna party tonight. And by party, I mean get tipsy, be overly affectionate with my wife, then pass out before anything happens.

You have to admire his dedication to score this one massive beer troll!
The point of me saying that wasn't to be a super taster, it was to say "craft beer drinkers are faggots" and see how many butthurt, twirly-moustached hardos came out to jump all over me. Plan worked.

If there's one thing I know, it's craft beer drinkers love to defend their drinks. To an almost homosexual level.
