In all sincerity, this is the attitude that is going to get you back on the horse as it were. You are plenty worthy of finding love at your age, but you just need to accept some hard truths about it. First, kids are probably out of the picture at this point and you may end up finding a guy who has one or two of his own. Second, you need to not give a shit and just let things happen, which is to say do not go out in the world with a victim mentality "no one wants me" because predatory guys will smell that shit from miles away and pounce. Third, at that age you are going to have to play the field a bit to sort out the good from the bad, so don't settle (again) for good enough. Finally, focus on one thing at a time in life, which is to say get the divorce done (put that guy fully in the rear view or you will never heal), get the self improvement shit sorted (little excercise is great, but don't get addicted to therapy because they have a vested interest in treating not solving problems), and THEN start paying attention to the dating pool out there.
You are a sub 40s woman with solid looks who has a job and her shit together. You also like nerd shit and hand out BJs after being married. Get that self esteem issue under control and you are practically a fucking unicorn. I get that depression is a mother fucker, but you actually hold all the cards here. You just have to keep your sense of humor about the whole thing and make sure you don't fall in with someone who is going to take advantage of you again. Your looks are fine, remember you are not competing with the 20 something sperm receptacles for chad dick. You are looking for a nerd who has their shit together and has probably had their heart stomped on by one of those woman who you can relate to and take you to pound town often enough that you feel desirable. I think this is easily achievable by you and there are some dudes in this thread who started over in their mid 30s who can give you some solid advice if you feel you need it. You just can't give in to negativity and be your own worst enemy. If my fat ugly ass can find my one true love at 37, you can do it too.

Today has been my weirdest Saturday of the last five years. Sorry upfront for the length, but I have to get this out.
I haven't seen or spoken to my ex-wife since February of 2020. In the ensuing years, we've sent each other maybe dozen emails and texts in total - almost all about a few shared accounts, taxes, old bills, etc. Last I heard, she was living over 1,000 miles from here. I never really expected to ever see her again.
She texts me yesterday out of the blue. She's back in the area and wants to come over.
Turns out, my name was still on the title of the car we'd bought a dozen years ago. She is trading it in and needed my signature on a few documents. That's fine - I'm happy to help. Plus, I'm terribly curious to see her. I tell her to come to our old house (which I got in the divorce), and I'll sign the paperwork.
She texts back: "Sounds good - we'll be there around 2"
Oh, great. There's a "we". I'm going to meet my ex-wife's new boyfriend. Lovely.
Still, it's been five years so what the fuck did I expect? I mean, it's not like I've been some lonely incel myself. Even so, I was suddenly incredibly nervous about seeing her again.

- The new dude (her "fiancé", apparently kinda sorta) seems quite pleasant and nice. They're co-workers and have shared interests and are hopefully happy and a good fit for each other. He is also my obvious, total, and complete inferior in virtually every way I could see. It's weird as a grown man to feel like you just totally dominate another grown man, but there it was. Maybe I had home-court advantage, but from the moment of his first limp handshake to me seeing them out after we were done, I felt powerful - strong, smart, handsome, funny, and totally in charge.
- Validation is a word that gets thrown around a lot on the internet; people really want their decisions affirmed and celebrated. I can see why - getting validated in your decisions fucking rules. After seeing and talking to my ex-wife after all this time, It feels like every single big decision I made over the last six years - the breakdown of the marriage, my filing for divorce, the final separation, the often-lonely COVID years, getting back into dating again, taking care of my aging parents, etc. - were all completely correct and today proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
