Go here and give us your nominations!
Who's been the biggest Asshat in the last year? Give us your worst ones!
I'm not surprised they finally nerfed phoenix charge. I rarely played her after 60 since I didn't really enjoy playing that build, but it was too much dps not too. She isn't planned for the rework any time soon either.

So where's the guide for new players to this game?
I haven't watched it, but this guy has a video that appears to cover a lot of things you would want to know:

A (Mostly) Comprehensive Guide For New Players - Video - Marvel Heroes

MalfeanWW puts out a lot of hero guides. He has started putting out a few guides covering general gameplay:

MalfeanWW Lazy n00b Guide - Level 1-60 and Game Modes! - Marvel Heroes

MalfeanWW Lazy n00b Guide - I'm 60! Now What? - Marvel Heroes

The part of that about Black Panther is depressing. He is currently AWFUL and it doesn't seem like they realize that. He doesn't need tweaks, he needs a total overhaul.

Is there a better site than Marvelbase for looking up hero builds?

I'm trying to find the most min/max'ed build possible for Ghost Rider, but marvelbase is out of date.

Did you try the ghost rider forums on the official website? Sometimes good builds are posted in those forums.
There are people who post their builds on there, but I don't know enough about Ghost Rider (or the game in general) to distinguish the good builds that have been vetted endgame from the builds that a 10 year old used to clear normal.

For Nightcrawler, there seems to be just 1-2 builds that everyone uses. But Ghost Rider builds seem all over place.

I have started playing again. Got my Scarlet Witch up to level 39. I'm about to start chapter 8 of the main quest on the heroic story mode again. Whats the fastest way to level? I have been doing Midtown when needing a break from the story. I have all purple, cosmic, and a couple uniques already. Should I even worry about my gear at this stage?

Legendary quests. Lots and lots of legendary quests.

You'll want to reroll some of them that take too long, if you are going for maximum efficiency.

Gear isn't a big concern while leveling, no.

Pretty much this. I've tried to make a go with my 60 GR like three times now, cause I really like the character and his visuals are great. Thing is to me GRs main attacks should be chain based, yet his best single target and AoE ability is that stupid looking whirling power. Apparantly his other builds are good as well, but I find the idea of him ramming his bike into the bad guys over and over pretty silly. The dev who designed him (MichaelMayhem) was I think the first player they hired off the forums, and he really did a good job on Human Torch and Loki, but GR isn't on their level. He's doing Dr. Strange too, hoping his kit is on par with Loki as I been looking forward to playing him.

So after playing this game for a while and just blindly following builds as I learned more about the game I've started to actually stop to figure out my own gearing and build strategies. This has made me realize that the community for this game is actually really, really small and doesn't understand how simple the stat mechanics are. I think I might build a rawr style .NET character/stat modeller in my spare time as a pet project. I'm assuming the answer is no otherwise we'd have more community driven databases by now but does Gaz have a REST API or any API for that matter for pulling character info from outside of the game?

I have more fun leveling heroes than playing at the end game.

For me personally is that during the leveling process, the game is easy so just about any build can be viable.

So I can focus on abilities that I like for how they work, how they look, and make a hero that's fun and looks cool.

At the end game, doing the cosmic terminals and stuff pretty much requires you to play min/max and use the most efficient build possible which may not be the most fun or coolest looking.

This is a problem is a lot of MMO, but I find it more obvious here...

Well I have 3 60's now. Captain America was my first, then Thor, now Ms. Marvel.

At end game in cosmic terminals I struggle with Cap and Thor. With Ms. Marvel lol too easy. I beat Doom without using a med-pack with her. I only have 1 point into her most of movement powers, and one point into her power that when you move you heal and get a heal over time.

It's just charge hit charge hit charge hit, when you are getting low on spirit switch hits to melee and use her spirit regen ability twice then back to rotation. Heck I did not even use her ultimate.

Feels like she needs a nerf or Cap and Thor need serious buffing.

Not sure it's so much size of the community, but more it's make up combined with in general how easy the game(genre really) is. At this point most people just want to throw on their Hand of Doom/Kurse Gem and go full out dps since there's not much incentive to do otherwise. Cosmics to a degree can benefit from actually having a balanced build, and I always build some defense/health on all my characters as it does make a difference.

You're also right that most have no clue how stats actually work, or at least how to maximize their build via damage rating/crit/etc. There are a few regular posters that I've found to be good theorycrafters, though most seem to be barely playing anymore, at least until some new content arrives. Also didn't help when the person who actually came up with the most accurate dps formulas ended up getting a job with Gaz, though they did repost his threads on the Guides section.

Anyways at this point with the way they standardized most all powers via the tags system, it's usually pretty easy to figure out a decent build once you seen those same abilities across multiple heroes.

I'd still like to see a way to dump character data out and swap gear/build points out on a website (that you can custom input the numbers for said gear) and see how it impacts stats, without it binding to that character and paying to have to unbind it. Most of the time it's obvious, but I like to play around and one could really maximize build/gear breakpoint/stat thresholds..like some D3 sites do.

What do you do after Story Mode is over the first time? I was just running through the Heroic Mode story and doing a terminal whenever it popped up under the legendary quest, but I got a Midtown quest today...that might have been the most fun I've had in this game. I kept getting more Legendary quests that I could do there and I breezed through 2-3 levels and even got a Unique out of it. My Thing is around 35 now and I couldn't fathom how people have all of these level 60s. Is that where a lot of you go or do you just hit cosmic terminals over and over and over again?
