Thanks for the tips - I chose Colossus as my free starter guy and definitely enjoying him so far. Was doing the story quest for the most part, but then wanted to see what else was available. Like the Midtown Patrol and Holo-Sim Defense challenge things. Tons of loot drops, quick xp. I've greatly out-xp'd the story mode at this point, just hit 19.

Couple more questions -

1) At level 15 I got 250 free bucks - any idea if those would be flagged differently for the BOGO hero thing? If I use them to buy one of the cheap 200G heroes, I'd think I'd still get a free random extra, so that could be a gamble worth making. I can't see why they wouldn't work the same, but I could see some super stingy company restricting that from happening.

2) Retcon items - I got one for finishing a quest out - do I get more of these pretty easily? Or should I cherish this one till I get high level. I'm realizing I've definitely spent some points I shouldn't have, but don't want to blow this thing or have to buy another later on.

3) Credits - I've got like 50k credits to this point. I'm not seeing anything to really spend on (which is fine, i'm a hoarder in games like this). I don't see too many crazy credit sinks either. Leveling the vendors/crafting/enchanters is an opportunity cost sink, but not a cash sink that you can dump credits into outside of by losing the credits by donating the items. I do see at level 20 I'll get to gamble on some epic gear for 1k and an eternity thing, but not sure there's much point to that yet - loot flows like a river.

4) Speaking of loot - love it in this game. I've gotten a bunch of things that have changed my gameplay and made me go 'wow' already, including two uniques (sadly same item, but the second one did have a bit better stats). Gotten a cosmic weapon already, which is neat, but it's starting to fall behind on raw damage stat. Not sure how to weight it's cosmically awesomeness vs upgrading to a much higher damage rating weapon.

5) Eggs for the easter event thing - I've gotten quite a few. I want to save them under the thought that any items I get from the ghost boxes will be level appropriate for when I buy them (maybe?), but I don't want to miss out on spending them. Will the vendor remain once the eggs stop dropping - will we have enough warning to use them or lose them? I don't know how this company does this kind of thing yet, so don't want to fuck myself.

Leveling is quick, action is fun, I'm not bored yet. Like the variety of things.

My quest chapter 1 is bugged - I don't have the final step for it, and as such it's showing as not checked off, even though I'm on chapter 4 now, so I guess I did the mandatory parts or something.

Anyway, again, thanks for the advice, and glad I finally checked this game out!

You get retcon devices every time you complete that part of the main story, so once each for normal, heroic, and superheroic. The cheapest hero is 450g, so the free 250g is really just a tease. Unless you combo it with a 2100g purchase, in which case you're perfectly left over with 1350g after buying two stash spots.

Eggs will be to be spent until after next weekend because they extended the easter event.

On a personal note, just randomed Spiderman. That's two 600 splinter heroes I've randomed now. Feels good.

Ah, cool, so I can retcon with no fear. Cool.

And bummer, I saw the infinity shard or whatever prices of 200 for some cheaper heroes and thought that was the G price as well. Darn there.

Thanks!

Make sure you level up your Crafter first, then Enchanter...this weekend will be a good time to make progress on them as there will be drops like the Eggs you can trade in for large gains. Once you hit 20 you'll open up Legendary Quests...doing them the XP will come very fast compared to story, though at some point if you decide to put much time into Colossus at 60 you will want to go get all story mode rewards for each difficulty.

They are giving away another Easter Basket on Saturday as well...it will drop at least 1 unique, if you can play a good bit and plan to hit 60 within a few days I'd wait and open it then so you have a max level unique right off.

One of the downsides with Jean is that she just has a fairly shallow play style right now. You're either mowing mobs with Phoenix Corona, or dropping circles on the screen. Lots of circles.

If you aren't already playing her as Phoenix then that would help a lot. Here is a solid build for her:
Phoenix Reborn aka 'Face Tank your way through stuff' : Cosmic Terminal Build - Marvel Heroes

Telepathic Detection, Lethargy, and possibly Phoenix Avatar are getting buffs/fixes so she's getting a bit of a massage to help tide the character over until her review.
Upcoming addition to Telepathic Detection! - Marvel Heroes
Thanks for this; a lot of it is where I was heading anyway but I definitely overlooked the DOT component of Lethargy so putting some points into that has made things a bit more entertaining (and it's getting buffed too, yay!). Phoenix form seemed like a must from the get go which is actually part of the reason I was disappointed with the character; I was hoping Phoenix form would be a bonus on top of an awesome Jean Grey but she seems pointless without it.

So far I've spent the most gold rerolling costume affixs, rare artifacts, and uniques at the crafter for better stat totals. Also bought a couple epic insignias off the chapter 9 lower asgard door event merchant, which took a few days of refreshing.

For gear with +1 to all, I think I've seen +1 to all skills valued as equivalent to 300 dmg rating. Not sure.

Many skills have passive components like +crit or +brut or +dodge etc that go up in value with each skill rank so you can't just value +skills as damage rating to effectively gear. Most of us have grown accustomed to things like Rawr to help us just plug in different pieces of equipment and run simulations to get data but there is nothing even close to that for this game. Mostly because of how secretive they are with the math behind most of the game's systems and also because of silly things like the "fighting" tag which thankfully they are moving away from.

Sounds like storms gettin nerfed down on the TC.
Figures.

On an unrelated note, I've never really cares about skins/costumes, and now the only one I actually want is exclusive to people who bought the 200 dollar ultimate pack. FML

Marvel Heroes CompendiumLooted this recently. Guess I'll have to wait until all the stat/power/item changes are over in a couple months to see if it's worth keeping. Seems like it would be useful on future raid stuff.

I read that one of Jean Grey's abilities (Phoenix Inferno) was also nerfed, which would be bad considering she's already weak. Looking at the test center forums it seems like a few other characters got some nerfs; I'm hoping there's just some bugged abilities at the moment because of the other changes they made. Test Center is behind the actual designer data so I guess we'll find out soon.

That compendium has a makeshift dps spreadsheet but it's nothing like rawr. You have to manually enter everything and there are things in the game in can't account for like +DoT damage

The compendium spreadsheet is correct numbers wise, but as you say it won't correctly model some of the unique powers, but most are ok. Before he joined Gaz, Psilocke posted the dps formulas, and they were reposted on the Guides section. I do agree though that even with the sheet, the process is more tedious than something like Rawr. There's a few guys that maintain their own sheets, but generally only provide info on the heroes they play. =P

I usually just go by some of the established guidelines for gearing, ie melee try to get 20k+ health, at 37% Crit Chance, Crit Damage Rating becomes more valuable than Damage Rating, and NEVER, EVER build Brutal Damage Rating.

Regarding the retcon discussion earlier, I believe we're getting unlimited free retcons next week to help with deal with some of the changes coming in the patch, so hold off on consuming any in the meanwhile.

Good to know. I've never had to use a retcon device because of timely resets, so I have quite a few saved up, but I made a mistake and put some points into the wrong taunt ability (for what I want to do) and have been tempted to reset. I'll just wait it out then.

Yea I'm having the same issues. I just tried to do an integrity check to force it to update but no luck.

Yeah, was hoping to play around with Jean a bit before work (even though some of her stuff got delayed till next week). Oh well!
