Says to me they wanted to control it more than he's willing to make it fit in their larger universe.

Which mildly annoys me. Edgar Wright is fuckin' brilliant and Ant-Man is a fringe character, give the man his creative freedom. As much faith as I have in Marvel and their vision I really wanted this move as Edgar Wright sees it.

Agree. Personally, I find it odd that an Ant-man movie is coming out after Age of Ultron -- especially with the history of the character and his involvement in the creation of Ultron.

This is the only time Ant-man has ever been cool:

Word is that he was canned because the release date is 14 months away, the movie budget was skyrocketing and he wasn't able to get things back on track.

I dunno. Generally, I'd side with Marvel because they've done such a bang-up job at the Universe building and making DC look like a bunch of faggots at a tea party, but damn, Edgar Wright. I'd give that fucker all the money he wanted and let him dress everyone in drag if that's how he saw the movie. I had no love for Scott Pilgrim, never read the comics, hated Michael Cera and still loved what he did with that film. And Hot Fuzz was my go-to Friday-get-drunk-at-lunch-before-heading-back-to-work-for-a-nap movie for months. And yes, that's what I called it every time. (I didn't.)

All I can think of is he wanted to add the woman beating part of personality of the older ant man into the movie, and Disney was having none of that.

Shame, Edgar is a such a great film maker.

I thought they were going to do the irredeemable ant man story, where the main dude steals ant man tech and is a dick.

Which Antman was using shrink tech to jackoff on Ms Marvel in the shower?

I was initially hoping it was him but all signs point to Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd. Michael Douglas was cast as Hank Pym, and if it's focused on Lang there's no reason to include the infamous backhand at all.

Yeah and I have faith in the Marvel folks to make it a great movie still. But as I said Ant Man is such a fringe character to the Universe right now I'd like if they just gave Edgar a ton of freedom with the movie and had it barely part of the U. But it's hard to begrudge them much, they've earned the benefit of the doubt many times over at this point.

but ant-man... i never liked them, well o'grady was ok, he's always just been bleh to me. actually ultimate ant-man is cool with me, where they make him a looser, a looser that still gets valkarie, but got bitch slapped by cap, his woman stolen and the one job he could get right (kill a sleeping banner b/4 he hulked), he still messed up (on purpose).

I love Edgar Wright but right now I have faith in Marvel. They've been pretty good so far. For all we know, maybe they wanted the movie to tie-in more with the cinematic universe than what Wright was doing, both in term of plot and tone.

We will probably never really know...if the movie turns out good...people will forget Edgar was ever associated with it, if it flops they'll all blame Marvel for not letting him do what he wanted.

This doesn't bother me one bit, and I'm confident Marvel made the right decision based on every other decision they've made so far being the right one. I'm sure this will get a few riled up, but I'm not much of a fan of his work to be honest. Sure I loved Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, but it wasn't the fast cut-scenes that made me love them. I loved them in spite of that crap. And I'm apparently the only person on this board that wasn't blown away by Scott Pilgrim. I enjoyed it well enough, and I'll admit that if Scott Pilgrim were shot "conventionally" it probably would have been crappy, but if I never see another movie by this guy I won't be disappointed in the least.

I'm not saying he would have made a bad Ant Man, but I was never stroking my wang in anticipation either. And if this turns out to finally be the "bad" Marvel movie (of the Marvel Cinematic Universe era, not counting crap like Ghost Rider), eh, it's Ant Man, I'll get over it I'm pretty sure. If it were, say, Dr. Strange...then I'd be upset. But as good as Irredeemable was, I just can't develop much of an attachment to a character I have *never* given a fuck about. And I have faith that Marvel probably knows what they are doing if they felt the need to kick this guy off.

But that's kind of the point. He was passionate about this project, and not in the Hollywood sense. He's been pushing for the chance to make this movie since 2006, 2 years before Iron Man even kicked off the MCU. He spent his own money to make a proof of concept Ant Man short thing on his own just to get Marvel to let him make this movie about a character they had no big plans for. He MADE Ant-Man happen as much as any single person possibly could.

And now he's off it. The fact you have some weird blind spot for his brilliance doesn't change the fact that this movie was his baby from before it was even really conceived. And now we are never going to get his version of the movie.

I have faith in Marvel. Theywillmake a good Ant Man movie. But I will never see the Ant-Man movie that Edgar Wright envisioned for the better part of a decade and fought for and finally got the backing and big budget to make. That is a God damned shame, and if you or anyone can't see or accept that the fault lies purely on you.
