Same reason anyone does extreme body mod shit, they are desperate for attention but lack the social skills to get it by actually being interesting.

So an Age of Ultron prequel comic is now out and details how Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch get their powers. Turns out it is just as simple as the ending to Cap 2 made it seem : Baron Von Strucker is using Loki's staff to 'unlock' potential within Miracles. I really thought they were going with the Inhuman angle and maybe they still are using Loki's staff AKA Infinity Gem to bypass the Terrigen Mists, but for now they are officially made by Baron Von Strucker.
