I got some Patagonia boots off Hautelook a few years back that I'm pretty happy with. They're gore-tex so relatively waterproof and fairly lightweight. I wear them when it starts getting snowy out to walk the dog and, of course, hiking. Think I paid $100.

do you boot/shoe ppl buy from shoebuy.com? my wife regularly buys from them, free shipping and free return shipping (just print ups label and drop off), why do i know? she orders shoes and if they don't fit, instant return/money back or different size.
they always have a 20 off 100 coupon, this month its "january100", better is 22% off anything "retailmenot", i'm only saying shoebuy cuz they coupons whereas amazon(i shop almost exclusively since i have prime) and zappos never have coupons.
also last time i checked shoebuy isn't forced to make you pay sales tax, so that alone could be 25bucks. (on a 300dollar boot)

I guess I don't understand boots like that. Unless your wearing your pants tucked in, those things seem pointless. But shit, as I'm typing this I just realized how pointless "fashion" is. nvmBlack boot I'm planning to buy:
regular old polish, cake that shit on with a brush, then "spit" shine it with wet cotton balls until it brings like a freshly hand-waxed car. For black, brown normally isn't polished to mirrored finish.

The bottom strap will show when moving or wearing non-boot cut pants. Top strap pointless though.
It's "supposed" to allow you to fit your leg and pants INTO the boot easier, and then you strap it up to cinch in your pants and make a more secure fit to help keep shit out of your boots. Those kind of boots are designed to be worn with the pants tucked in. It also protects cloth with leather... tougher outwear over softer inner wear. It's ye ol' fashion style... even if 95% of men don't actually wear boots for practical reasons... some of us did grow up on farms... and didn't want to get shit (literal cowshit) on our jeans.

But yes, it is more common for women to wear boots with things all over them like straps since they wear them outside their clothing.

While he looks badass in his day, if you walk around looking like that you might as well be wearing a weaboo shirt and sweatpants because you're gonna get beat up.
They're just engineering boots. Personally I find the ones linked really fugly because I hate the faux distressed leather but they're not entirely uncommon to see. Not my style but I get it.

Just got a pair of these. Only other pair of boots I've had are more non traditional (Fluevog Shoes | Shop | Derby Swirl (6 Eye) (Burgundy Rub-off)) so these will be worn more often. They feel great and am looking forward to working them in.

Can anyone recommend a pair of black oxford's that are (hopefully) under $120 that are worth a shit? I've been wearing square toed dress shoes as my work shoes for years now, and apparently they're...awful? I never knew. I've had the same pair for like 4 years though, so I figured it's time to get a new pair anyway.
Budget is just because I don't imagine I can sell my wife on spending more than that for fucking shoes.
