The Daltons are nice boots. I wish they had them in a plain toe though. I don't want wingtip boots.

Yeah I recently bought two pairs of Dry Bones boots (Japanese company, MiJ boots) because I got them on a mega sale for under $100 (I think ~$75) but there are a few issues with the wingtip version. I should clarify I don't have issues with wingtip (both my 1K's are Addison version which have wingtips) it is the brogue I have issues with. One is they are two-tone of Brown/Ivory so they're somewhat 50's rockabilly look which is not my personal style and the other is they're just too fancy for what I normally wear. I'm considering stripping off the leather finishing and seeing if I can re-dye them to maybe black. Because I bought them two months ago and have worn them maybe twice. The other pair I bought is also two-tone but look far better and are much more casual looking. They're suede and my only pair of suede boots so I wear them fairly often.

If it makes you feel better streetwear is the new workwear. It just hasn't taken hold yet everywhere and fuck some regions are just now getting the whole workwear trend.

20% off all clearance items at AE!!

Tenks, what's your opinion of those Monk strap shoes? Brown and Black colors up on clearance, and in my size, and they look pretty dope. I prefer that toe style, compared to the fancy wing tips for business casual, as the wingtips force me into wearing slacks, I feel.

Edit: So I just saw this shoe as well. This is identical in design/style as what I'm currently wearing, and I wear this with jeans, khaki's, dress slacks, suit, all of it. Is that wrong?

And after finding the above, which matches what I have, the below questions are kind of moot point, but might as well just ask anyway. lol

Am I right that this:
Hale - Cap-toe Lace-up Oxford Men's Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

is more versatile than this:
McClain - Wingtip Lace-up Oxford Men's Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

But what I really kinda want, but not sure if I can wear with denim or dress slacks, or khaki's:
Norwich - Plain-toe Monk Strap Mens Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

Thanks Tenks.

Can anyone recommend some good black boots (or suggest brands to look at) to go with jeans? And do you suggest more neutral colors for saddle oxfords? Really been wanting to get some suede saddle oxfords, but not really sure where to start and if brighter colors are hard to coordinate.

Cap toes are more formal than wingtips. You should be more comfortable dressing down the wingtip. I don't like monk straps so I won't comment on those.

Don't wear black dress shoes unless it's to a wedding/funeral/interview with a suit.

The broguing puts them in a weird spot. They're too formal to dress down (black), and too in-formal for the few occasions you'd want a black dress shoe (brogued). That's probably why they ended up on clearance.

So brogued makes a show less formal? I wouldn't have ever guessed that, but it makes sense.

And I guess I've been doing fashion wrong for years and years. I used to have less formal black shoes I'd wear with jeans, and khaki's, but when those wore out, and I still had my split toe black "dress" shoes, I just started wearing those with everything. 99% of the time either denim, or black slacks. Never thought there was a problem with it.

They have the Hale's in brown on clearance, too, but they're a little bit more expensive and I didn't look at the sizes.

I'm really not a great resource on dress shoes or dress wear in general. I wear boots and jeans basically every day of my life. However I feel a shiny oxford shoe with jeans is a somewhat dated look. Reminds me of the mid 00's style where you'd wear them with bootcut jeans. Not a modern look at all which is more boots and tapered jeans and oxfords with tapered jeans just don't look good together.

Oxfords with a pair of dark blue jeans will never go out of style.

AE's Rush Street is my favorite shoe ever. It dresses down a suit really well, and looks amazing with a dark pair of jeans.

For Khane... my shoes... After seeing them in pictures, I'm kind of embarrassed. I wear these with black slacks, as shown, but 80% of the time it's with a pair of jeans. They are worn out, but still comfortable, and never gave it much thought.

Now given so much of when I wear these is with jeans, it sounds like split toes are not what I should be getting.
80% jean wear, 10% with slacks/suit, what 1 shoe would be able to handle that? any?

I have two different colors of that same style as the rush street, though they are the strand cap toe:

Strand - Cap-toe Lace-up Oxford Mens Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

One in chili, one in black. The black pair almost never get worn because honestly, you just shouldn't wear a black "dress" shoe with jeans in my opinion. Ever. They get worn almost exclusively with black/light grey slacks and every once in a great while with navy slacks for me.

Here is another great shoe that can be both dressed down with jeans or worn with a suit (I own these in walnut burnished calf):

I have the Strand and Rush Street, and they're basically the same shoe. Both are great shoes, but the CXL amd Dainite soles on the Rush Street are much more casual friendly. The Rush Street is $60 cheaper, too.

So the brogue styling on the Rush Street, or the Strands, doesn't make them too fancy for jeans? The Carlyle's seem like the best ones to dress down with some jeans, compared to the others because of the plain toe?

If I was looking for brown and black, so I had my basis covered, get a black Strand, to wear with my black slacks, and then a brown (really like that walnut burnished calf) Carlyle to rock with my jeans?

Reverse that. Broguing makes them more casual. Of the three, ranked from most to least formal, it would be the Carlyle > Strand > Rush Street. The Strand in Walnut is a great first buy because it's so versatile. If I had to buy just two shoes to cover black and brown, I'd go with the Park Avenue in black and Strand in Walnut. The Park Avenue is really just personal preference, cap toe or plain toe, and I prefer the cap toe.

You said you wear jeans 80% of the time, which might make the Rush Street a better pick for you than the Strand. The CXL looks better with a little wear on it, and the Dainite soles are softer wearing than leather (or leather + thin topy).

Another important thing to consider is that only a few of their more popular shoes are available with an added rubber sole without making it a "custom" order(+ money, no returns). Look for "Combination Tap Sole" if that's something you're interested in.
