Allen Edmonds. They're definitely above your budget, but they're recraftable. Sell your wife on the savings over time.
Correct, you'll spend ~250+ on a new pair, but you can send them back and they recraft the entire shoe, including the sole and all the stitching and leather. It's basically a brand new shoe and that only costs ~$125. Those shoes will literally last you forever (unless AE goes out of business)

Where's the best place to buy them? I still don't know that I want to spend that much on shoes, but I'll look into it. Most of what I found was in the $300+ range.

Only places to buy them in person are at an Allen Edmonds store or Nordstrom's *I think*. If none of those around you not sure how you could try them on but I think they have a very good return/replacement policy on shoes that don't fit purchased online via their website.

If you buy online go through one of these shopping portals to get cash back:

Cashback Reward Comparison: Search Store: Allen Edmonds

Here are the clearance items:

Mens Shoes | Allen Edmonds

Otherwise you'll be spending at least $300

And you'll definitely want cedar shoe trees for these.

I've always bought them from Allen Edmonds directly. They do have a fantastic return policy, so there's no worries there. Beware that if you buy a clearance shoe they probably won't be able to exchange them, so buy a few if you're unsure on your size and return the ones that don't work.

Did you really mean your brother passed away? Like he's dead? And then you casually comment how you took the jeans that were going to be his present?

And THEN you make a comment about something being stiff as a board? I dunno, just seems like the death of your brother didn't hit you all that hard, unless I'm misunderstanding something. You made a pretty awesome (and I think unintentional) pun.
Ah sorry, didn't see this. Don't usually check this forum unless the fashion thread is bumped and forgot I made the post. But yeah, it was an unintentional (unfortunate?) pun. As for the jeans, it was more a question of my mom not wanting to go through the process of returning gifts she had purchased and much preferred myself and little brother deciding if we would really use anything. So we went through some of the important stuff and decided what we'd do. It probably came off as casual just because of how I was dealing with it at the time. Think I'd written like 5 or 6 different long posts in the Medical Issues thread, Things the Rustle Your Jimmies, First World Problems and deleted them all before actually posting. Probably wasn't appropriate to drop it in passing like that, should have just mentioned the shoes and jeans without the other personal crap.

Anyways! I'll fourth or fifth the Allen Edmonds recommendation. My pairs have held up incredible, are extremely comfortable for long days that I have to walk from meeting to meeting, etc... Well worth the money if you're able to do it and once you do I think you'll see the value.

Allen Edmonds are solid shoes. If you are buying them to try on or test out, remember to only wear them on carpet.

Glad you realized how bad square toed shoes are.

Going to fire ashot in the dark here... Anyone know where ican buy a pair of the navy straw foots? II bought a pair of the white ones, but didn't get the navy in time.

While I have no doubt Allen Edmonds are great shoes, I've been wearing a pair of shoes I bought from Men's Warehouse for 10 years. Payed $80 for them? No idea how I got so lucky and have had them so long. They are for sure pretty worn out, but they have that worn in comfyness to them that new shoes won't have. haha!

But I'm afraid to get a new pair.

Post a picture of them here. They probably look absolutely ridiculous and slightly like something a homeless person would wear at this point and you just don't care.

Calling me out! I don't think they are that bad, this is true. I'll try and get a picture posted!

I bought a pair of theseAllen Edmonds wingtips4 or 5 months ago on recommendation from this thread. Got them during one of Nordstom sales for a little under $200 before tax. I really enjoy them and get quite a few compliments.

Anyone own cordovan shoes? The leather, not color.

Always heard great things about it, but haven't taken that leap yet.

I was a hair away from ordering the AE created Wolverine 1K's made out of shell using the 1K last. But even on deep sale they were still $350 and I'd prefer a pair of Lone Wolf boots to some shell 1K's (I already have 1K's in rust which is basically the same color but made of Horween leather.) I don't have any personal experience with it but I know it is getting hard to find shell so the actual shoes made out of it are becoming somewhat rare. There has been a huge uptick in demand for shell but not a similar uptick in supply.

Also not boots but Context has some nice shell wallets available. Obv most people won't want to pay $400 for a wallet but it is the cheapest I've seen a nice shell wallet for sale. Most of the MiJ (TFH, Red Moon) shell oversized bikers are more in the $800 range. Should note only the outside of shell cordovan and the interior is just horsehide. Many of the wallets put out by Flat Head or Red Moon can be all shell cordovan in the $800 price range.

Picked up a pair of McTavish and Daltons from the AE factory seconds sale this week. Can't even figure out what caused them to fail inspection.
