They have to save his power for the playoffs - those 4 HR across 149 games could do some real damage in in the playoffs. Man has 28 HR through 6 seasons.

It does seem cheap though. Didn't Ted Williams risk his .400 going into the last 3 games game of the season but chose to play? After 161 he was at .3995 and he went 4 for 5 in the final game to get over .400.

Yeah, pretty bitch move by the Padres, but what can ya do? Even if Ohtani goes 5/5 tomorrow, don't think he can catch him.

Absolutely wild that Arraez's average plummeted that far - still would love to see the Triple Crown. Sadly, Ohtani isn't going to quite get there and Judge decided to be a bad baseball player for three weeks to start September.

Yes but they're still only the 18th highest payroll in MLB and they're at 133m to the 130m of the Twins.

Tangential to your question the two highest payrolls in the AL Central missed the playoffs, the other three teams are all clinched.

Well the D-Backs are in a weird position now for the postseason since we lost 2 out of the final 3 to the Padres.

They currently hold the #2 wild card spot BUT the Mets and Braves have a double header tomorrow to make up those games that got cancelled by the hurricane.

The only way the D-Backs get in is if either the Mets or the Braves sweep the double header tomorrow. If they split the games then all 3 teams end the season with the same record, and the Mets/Braves are in due to tiebreakers.

Yup. Feels bad that we didn't make it but there's no one to blame but ourselves. There were plenty of games we let slip away during the season that we should've won.
