DW has been hardballing people who try to change opponents. Conor was pushing for Nate Diaz behind the scenes and he had to keep shutting that down too. Wondering now that the Chandler fight officially didn't happen, if they will reschedule it or cave into Conor's demands for "legacy" fights for his final 2 fights on his contract. UFC seems hesitant to go along with any fighter's personal preference right now when it comes to the big name draws. Clinging onto Chandler and clinging onto the Stipe fight.
they owe chandler a big money fight, he's been out as long as stipe and he had to do that bullshit zero ratings tuf w/ conor

Wasn't mutual.

he had been making 325k for a win, more than headliner Glover Teixeira

If Jones wanted it as a warmup and planned to take another fight against a top contender at HW and wasn't baiting retirement, the fight would move the needle a lot more.

Jones threatening retirement and using the Stipe fight as some sort of capstone achievement on a long career really throws water on it. People want to see him take at least 1 more fight.

There's interest in seeing him get smashed by a true HW. Aspinall comes to mind. I think Blaydes could outwrestle him as well.

While karma owes it to Jones to send him to retirement with a beating, I think he wins those fights.

I'd argue if Stipe was active during this time he would have had to have faced the whose who of the division. Outside of the Ngannou KO loss (they are 1-1), he lost to DC 6 years ago and lost to JDS 10 years ago. He's 42 but he's a dog and he's a problem for anyone in the top 5.

I've been excited about that fight since it was announced 100 years ago. No one has an answer to Jones' fight IQ at heavyweight. IMO Gable Steveson (24 yrs old) will probably be the next big thing in the division. He's seemingly done with WWE and training with Robbie Lawler. I'll be surprised if Jones is still going by the time Steveson fighting top 10 guys in the UFC but would be interesting.

Though it's never really happened in someone that comes from outside football (Stephen Neal, Adam Coon, Brock Lesnar), Stevenson could just as well have an NFL career. I don't think him coming to MMA is a sure thing. That said, Stevenson did not play highschool football and has no football experience. But he could be the one guy to make it work given his athleticism.

He's doing football for the next 3 years either way as the Bills signed him.
