Don't think Jones will cut to 205 ever again, and DW said repeatedly in the past that he won't let Poatan move up.

Unless that changed tonight. I didn't watch the post-fight presser. But it's something UFC has been firm on that he's not allowed to move up to HW because "The guys are too big".
sorta funny as think poatan was around 230 yesterday, which in near what stipe fights at.

Has to be part of a long term UFC agenda to make the Jones- Aspinall fight. Never seen DW stand so hard against something so obvious. He always let guys move up until it's Poatan.

Everyone knows the guys are too big is complete bullshit. Ngannou isn't around anymore, Lewis is barely competitive now and 40 years old, so who's too big? Gane is 240's. Blaydes will lay on him but that's not a matchup anyone is asking for to begin with. DW is talking like the HW division is stacked with guys cutting to 265 when that's far from the case.

whats funny is no one gives a shit about aspinall, they let him win an interim, then they let him defend his interim

now that the real hw champ is ready to fight...

they sideline aspinall

let let jones take the money fight w/ stipe instead of "uniting" the belts

Dana probably hates that he let Jones move up, and wants to keep that from happening again.

Also, Dana is probably looking at Pereira as his moneymaker @ LHW

At this point I feel like Dana might be wanting to see JJ lose just so he can go fuck off and retire.

HW has always been kinda thin and a weird division, if we're being honest. Not enough fresh talent to avoid having a past-his-prime JJ corpse-camp it.

At the end of the day, Dana needs talent to either 1) be dominant enough to own a division, so they can headline big events, or 2) cycle often enough that he can build up the new talent with the corpses of the old talent. Well, the HW division sure as shit isn't 'cycling', the entire division is stagnant AF, and it isn't that JJ is as dominant as he'd like to think he is, he's just beating up a thin division and showing everyone how bad things are. Who wants to see that on a card?

Jones/Gane might have technically been a win for Jones, but IMHO it was a net loss for Dana and the UFC 🤷‍♂️

Just my 2 cents

i think i heard that the last time someone defended the belt 3x in a year was dj, b4 they kicked him out, and midgets don't count, so who knows how really long it's been since a champ defended like alex did

Randy Couture was able to move up under similar circumstances in the HW division (and even older age wise and past-prime as Jones was)

So true HW has never been solid-- and traditionally required 205'ers "moving up" to take on a "HW champion" to carry it. It'd be an equivocal comparison if Ngannou was still around (i.e. Brock during Couture's move) to sell freakshow tickets.

When I look at other orgs HW divisions, I see some good talent. UFC just doesn't put any effort into acquiring HW talent is the conclusion I drew. Guys like Lewis are markedly worse than the average HW fighting in other orgs, but UFC seems satisfied with it.

This is probably accurate. There's just no way JJ isn't borderline more headache than he's worth both in terms of himself as an individual and his effect on the division, but virtually every real HW athlete is out in some other sport getting paid real money and Dana just can't get rid of him.

Fixed. There's plenty of East Europe talent in HW when you look at other orgs, because they don't have the same opportunities to make money in American sports leagues.

dana has been on a jon is #1p4p warpath the last year. think he and ufc have been trying to get the hamill loss changed for a while too. he wants jon to beat stipe to cement him as the goat. don't know what the point would be after that. jon has said many times he is going to retire.

DW said he can't make the Aspinall - Stipe fight if Stipe wins, it's a no-go, but he's pretty sure about making the Aspinall - Jones fight if Jones wins.

Illegal strikes are illegal strikes whether you were dominating the match or not. Of all the many many many many many things Mazzagatti got wrong over the years, that was not one of them.

Stupid rule? Yes. Good ruling given the rules? Yes.

Isn't aspinall the backup for the fight? Be cool if stipe bows out at the last second and we get aspinall vs jones

He's also fat and out of shape bragging about how he "bulked up" for Jones when he's naturally fought around 230 his entire career.

Jones isn't someone you bulk up for. Translation is Stipe is just letting himself go and age caught up with him.

Fat mid 40's Stipe is really a waste of time.
